$75 is about the price of a decent motherboard these days, and a decent CPU would be another $75-100. So consider what you have to be a bit overpriced in my opinion, unless it came with a monitor.

There's not a whole lot of difference between the two in terms of resource usage. Windows XP will demand a bit more than 2000, but not by much.

If you haven't purchased the OS yet, it would make more sense to buy a new PC that comes pre-loaded with XP. If you insist on just sticking with what you have, be sure to install at least another 256MB of RAM. Also realize that it will likely take 10-15 seconds to switch between windows when you have more than 2-3 apps open, and it could take a while even for small office apps to launch. The PC should be fine for word processing and surfing, but don't expect to get much more out of it...

Depends on you really. if its for business, XP2000 Pro. For home and leisure, I recommend XP home edition. The Pro comes with more business oriented programs for people who are running their own business.
