My daughter wants to join the AF Reserves. What are the chances of her getting deployed to the Middle East?

It really all depends on her job. Being the AF, the chances of her deploying to a hot spot are not good unless she is in Security Forces or transportation. Most of the people I know in other career fields are safe in other non-hostile countries. I have been in the reserves for four years now as a female Security Force member and have yet to deploy but when on active duty I deployed all the time. It all depends on the base she is at and what the mission is. If I knew your location it would be an easier question. Does she know what base she will be based out of and what job she wants? If she does, don't just rely on the recruiter, look up the Unit info on the Internet for the orderly room. Have your daughter call them and explain that she wants to become part of the squadron. They may direct you to the First Sergeant who can tell her all about the squadron or might even direct her to another troop that can give her a tour or whatever. You would be surprised what a good squadron will do. Since they will be "stuck" with her they will tell her the truth so that she knows what to expect.

Assuming you mean American they are pretty good. I worked on a Canadian base in Kabul and there were a lot of American Reservists and even National Guard. I think though with the Air Force it is a little safer because she would be working on a base and wouldn't have a lot of reason to be roaming the countryside in search of terrorists. I would worry more about the men in the Military then anything else. Sexual assult is still not uncommon and most of those guys will say or do anything to get you in the sack after 5 or 6 months.

Can you try to convince her to wait until Bush leaves office? You just never know what country he'll attack next.

Seriously, though, I know many Reservists who've been deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan for 12 to 18 months. She will be deployed when she lest expects it.

So, if she joins the Reserves, make sure she is OK with the fact that she will probably see live action soon after training.

It all depends on her job. If she is a clerk maybe not, but if she is a medic a better chance. Also it depends on her unit. She is joing the reserves so she should know what kind of unit and if they have been deployed before. That will tell her a lot.

She would probably deploy. But then again it's unlikely she would see much of the fighting going on. Also be careful of the skittish posters statements that haven't served a day in the military in their lives. They enjoy calling out that the sky is falling but always fail to do something about it. SAd... lol

the reserve and guard isnt what it used to be when ole george used it to get out of vietnam. personally i would'nt even consider the guard or reserve. nowadays you are required to deploy just like the active troops and in some cases the reserve and guard deploys more!! go active or dont go @ all!!!!

Better do not send her right now.
Reasons are one that you are not committed to the duties she can be asked to perform, two presently Bush is fighting a useless war and third he is yet preparing to attack Korea or Iran.
You/your daughter appear to join AF for fun sake. It is a serious matter baby you ought to fight for your country when asked to do so. No mater the order is right or wrong.
Once you are in, you are in.
This is the time to re-think.

It would depend on what job field she persued. Some MOSs are needed more than others so they are the ones sent. Military Police and Transpotation are some of the most needed.

Reservist go overseas more often than active duty. It is highly likely that she will be joining all the others in Iraq, Kuwait, and Afganistan!
