My usual grocery shopping stop would be at a local Safeway. The reason I shop there is because I have a family member who works for that Company, but in different City. I like Safeway because most all of the employees there are friendly, hard working people and I always get good customer service. The thing is, I do most of the food shopping while my husband works during the day. I shop at Safeway at least 3 times a week, but I try to make it at least twice a week. The thing is, employees there obviously see's me and I guess they feel threaten of me or something (by the store camera's) cause if I'm browsing an item for more than 5 mins - they'll send a random employee, pretending to be scanning random items behind me or next to me. It's weird. What do you guys think?

In the past, I got asked by the usual check-out lady like, "Do you have a relative working for this store?" I'd be like, "Not this store, but at a different location." The lady would be like, "I was curious cause there's a Asian women that works in the Bakery and she sort of looked like you." I reassured her that she wasn't my mother. Or earlier today, the usual guy was talking to the store manager. The Mgr also feels threaten, which I don't have a clue to why. Is it because I shop too much at their store. It's very convenient for me since it's less than a mile to where I live. The usual check-out guy earlier today was like, "Is today your day off from work or did you start school?" I'm thinking to myself, "Isn't that like a personal question? I just told him, "No, I don't work." I just thought it's not his business to know everything about my life you know? Anyhow, Safeway Mgr still sends out one of thier scanners to the same aisle in which I am browsing in. I think it's disturbing.

Another thought was that usually employees would just greet their customers or to see if he/she found everything okay, but when the employees asks me persona questions like I stated above it feels awkward like they shouldn't be asking me stuff like that unless they are trying to make a friendly conversation, but to me, it feels out of place. Anyways, I'll confront the scanner person next time cause I'm not doing anything wrong. I have no intention of stealing - period. I wasn't raised or taught to steal.

well i am a safeway employee and i gotta say it might be a coincidence. (granted i dont know where you live but im in phoenix AZ so i have no idea) because i have the same guy come through my line at least twice a day, and everyday he buys about four of those fosters keg cans... i dont think he is stealing from the store. while at my sfeway we almost always have a guy (almost always a manager) "randomly scanning things" (what he/she is doing is ordering them for delivery). and what we generally do when we suspect a shoplifter is we treat them like royalty. we ask if they need help finding something and for some reason they always say yes (i guess to look like a real shopper) then we'll take them to it then open up an empty checkstand just for them and send them on their happy way. granted that might just be a managers at the stores idea but i doubt it.

I don't think it has anything to do with your husband working for Safeway. It's normal policy to send in ''reinforcements'' when Safeway feels threatened. You mentioned that they only do this when you spend more than 5 minutes deciding on one particular item...you frequent their store often and you are probably recognized because of this. I would change my Safeway if you this action makes you feel uncomfortable. You can even complain the the manager that you feel uneasy when the employees begin to hover around you and let them know that you plan on doing your business at another Safeway and that you are going to spread the word about their actions to all of your friends and family and recommend that they change stores with you!

Don't let anyone intimidate you or push you around!

Good Luck

Next time ask for the manager, and explain to him your problem. Before he/she gets a chance to speak mention that you come here often, and when you're in a section for 5 minutes, you're not stealing, you're looking for the best quality of that one product. If you go alone, you should be left alone unless you ask for help!

If he says that you look like you're trying to shoplift, tell him to look closer into the cameras and that you buy every single piece that you pick up. If he ignores, then seriously, find a new supermarket.

I wouldn't want to be posted as "wanted" at a supermarket.

Everybody perceived things in different ways but to me you are been a little paranoid. Anyway next time you feel a question is out of place answered with another question.Ex. whats your name? What do you want my name for?. Or ask for the suggestion box at the store and drop a letter with your complaint.

I work at a grocery store. I do all my shopping there. It's a hassle because I have to talk to someone else i work with in every isle..sometimes I just want to do my thing. But hey, I'm a paying customer, ...so what if they see me buying liquor or tampons.... don't worry about anyone else. They need to get a life, you just need groceries. Continue on shopping where you choose to, even if it is weird. Don't drive yourself crazy thinking about it.

How bazaar maybe they are just weird...maybe the next time you are at the check stand let them know how you like the prices in they're store and how they have everything you need.maybe they will get the hint that you just like their store....or just tell them to leave you alone when you shop that would surely surprise them lol...good luck..

where i live, we only have one shop to do our shopping at unless we wanna drive an hour. look dont let them make you feel like you are doing something wrong, there is nothing wrong with taking your time shopping, next time they act like that towards you tell them you wanna speak to the person in charge.
