the bible must have been the only way to stop people having sex and spreading what must have been an epidemic, it cant have been too clean back then right?
the best way to control it is to say "devine power" tells you to marry one person and stay with them for the rest of your life. At least then it's contained until they discover sanitation! obviously now we know that's not going to solve the problem, but it's funny that we still look to god for the answer!
so anyway, in my walk of life so far, i gotta say it's been my own awareness that has kept me clean ;)
