It's their uniforms or it is because they enforce laws ? Or it is because they sometimes misuse their power ?

well it's because cops always tell you what to do and they don't do it themselves.

Because most cops are badge heavy - they misuse their authority to make themselves feel powerful at other people's expense. Probably because they weren't popular or well liked as kids in school and they're trying to make up for it now.

Also, 90% of the population will only deal with the cops an avergae of three times in their lifetime, whether it's getting a ticket, witnessing a crime or whatever. Most of these contacts will be negative in nature, some will will be traumatic. Most people will associate that negative feeling with police officers because that's what their experience is. Like dentists. Not many people like the dentist. Same concept.

Like everything else, there are good cops and bad cops... even good cops have bad days.

Think for just a minute about the amount a police officer gets paid and dangers faced on a daily basis.

Now why would some one be willing to make a career out of that?

This would lead a person to believe that they must enjoy enforcing the law. Being right, in charge, empowered.

It's "the nature of the beast", the type of person who would /could do the job. Kinda of a "Legalized Bully". No one likes being bullied, legal or not, but whats the alternative?

If that statement is true then the majority are law breakers. You could only dislike the Police if you have had any problems with them and generally they are there to protect you. Admittedly there are corrupt cops too but there is corruption in all Government bodies in all countries, it's just the extent of the corruption. We might not like them but they are an necessity, good or bad.
I would also like to add the part of the job of a Policeman that has them pulling bodies out of cars or being confronted with bullet ridden bodies and dead children etc etc. Who would do these jobs if it wasn't for these people who come forward. Hopefully one day you will appreciate their significance.

Some misuse their power no doubt, the majority do not, most people dislike them because they enforce the laws and people get fines, arrested, etc.

Misuse of authority. When you've seen cops (and firemen too) make a big scene, putting on their mars lights, blowing their irritating, stressful sirens just to get around traffic a thousand times, you tend to become hardened.

traffic stops, in general, are ways to humiliate people and generate income.
Many watch too much TV, and the way they approach vehicles (with hand on holster) is a blatant example of this.

I would say that this is because most people meet police officers in a negative situation. Look at it, When do most people meet police officers? During traffic stops, when they are involved in a crime, etc.

If more people met police officers in a positive situation they'd like them. As a previous poster mentioned, Everyone loves a fireman. Because they meet them usually when things are at their worst and the fireman solves the problem by putting out the fire, rescuing people, etc.

If you get to know a few cops as I have, you'll find they're just regular people too. It's just the job they have to do.

Want to stop meeting cops in a negative way? Do as Jim Carrey advised his client in "Liar Liar" and "Stop breaking the law, a$$hole!"

The problem is too much law and not enough justice. The police are just enforcing stupid laws that they probably don`t believe in themselves. Must be difficult.

This is just speculation, but I think that most people, wether doing something wrong or not, feel paraniod around cops, because of the prowess and possible power they have to possibly change your life. Plus they have guns and can shoot people.

The whole Authority Thing. Most don't like being told what to do, some don't like them because they got caught, but hey-everyone just loves a fireman!!!
