Yes. They are taking individuals up to 42 years old now. Talk to a local recruiter and good luck...

Yes, the age limit is 42. Don't listen to all that crap about taking orders from 20 year olds, and being the oldest recruit in basic training. I was there. I was the oldest person in my platoon in basic training, and believe it or not, it actually helped me out. The things they put you through in basic are more or less psychological, being a little older with some life experience made it easier for me to cope. Plus, when you get out of basic, finish AIT, and then go on to your first duty station, things are completely different. I am still one of the oldest soldiers in my unit, and am also the lowest ranking. For the most part, my supervisors look to work ethic and what I can contribute to the team. Again, life experience has been a true asset. I am not one of those straight out of high school 18 year old know it alls that doesn't know anything but the Army. Besides, rank comes fast and before you know it, you will "catch up" to the other soldiers who joined at a younger age. I have not regretted for one second my decision to join the Army and will more than likely re-enlist. I wish you luck and success.

Everyone who said 42 is correct. You must still pass all physical and backround checks of course. If you have a BA degree you can go in as an officer if you desire or get a bit higher rank as an enlisted. Make sure you try to quit smoking. Last time I checked you cant smoke during basic anyway and you dont want to try to go through the stress of basic with the added stress of trying to break a smoking addiction. It is a good idea to start working out ASAP, especially in areas of running, pushups and situps as you are tested in those areas. Also just some advice, make sure you really research the job you choose and its what you really want cuase your gonna be stuck with it. Dont let recruiters pressure you into a job, you choose, not them. I know plenty of people older than you who do fine in the military. Best wishes.

You will be able to join. I would advise you to make sure you work out a little each day to get ready for training. Also if you have college you will get more rank when you enter. You should get E-4 with college, and make E-5 within 2 to 3 years. Of course if you have a Masters Degree I would become an officer, but enlisted are the best in my mind. Good luck.

Hey man, i was 31 when i joined. It isn't that bad, sure you have your moments when drill sergeants will do their job and yell and scream at you, but they do respect the older guys who join. Just dont be a punk, keep your mouth shut and give it your best shot, thats all they ask, they won't need to mold you like they mold the kids. Don't worry about the physical nature of the army, its more mental than anything, just keep pushing yourself on pt and you will be fine. Yes, you will have to listen to people younger than you, but 99% of them will treat you with the respect you deserve, meaning, if you are an ******, they will treat you like one, but if you are mature, than you have no worries. By the way, i was 31 when i finished basic and AIT and had the highest pt score, so age is only a number my friend, and i am an MP, very physical training.

Yes, you can. The Army recently increased the age limit to 42 years of age. Provided you can pass the ASVAB and the physical, you can join the Army. Basic will be a bit more difficult for you since there is no smoking, but you will be able to make it.

Good luck, and thanks.

Yes, there was an article about a 42 year old grandma on Yahoo about a week ago. If they accept her, then they probably will accept you. But you should talk to a recruiter. There are other factors in alllowing people to join up.
