No my friend they pulled a fast one on you. Someone can always have papers on a dog and it not really be the parents. Its the chance you have to take. When the people register the dogs for papers there is no one there to witness the breeding, birthing etc. therefore as long as they "had" or still have but some other dog knocked it up they can pretty much tell you what ever. The obviously were very dishonest with you, you could try calling them and telling them the dog didnt work out. Chances are they will be mad at you for even calling. Just enjoy your dog, what else can you do? sorry to hear it.

That is untrue, even in a breed there are dogs who can have different tails. Most show dogs are chosen because they have the perfect standard appearance of the breed, but many others do not, these dogs which have traits undesirable for upholding the breed standard in breeding or showing are usually sold as "pets" by breeders it does not in any way indicate that they are NOT purebred. On a side note, having papers does not in any way guarantee a dog is purebred either, papers can be obtained without any proof of bloodlines and recently a man made a point by registering a non-existent litter of purebred pups with the AKC.....
Go here to see some common pitbull tails and what is a show quality tail and which ones are a "fault", keep in mind that just because a dog does not have a show quality tail does not mean he is not a purebred dog.... http://www.apbtconformation.com/rearstudy1.htmhttp://www.apbtconformation.com/rearstudy1.htm

I could be that your dog is not actually a full bred pit bull, and that the owners of your pup's parents may or may not even know it.
On the other hand, your dog very well may be full blooded and the tail is just a "throw-back."
people who breed papered dogs usually breed for conformation shows. Nowadays, people who breed pit bulls often breed for conformation, or weight pull. Occassionally, you might find someone who breeds for the "old" traits that pit bulls are known for. But even the conformation standards for pit bulls are wide ranging.
Before conformation standards were even considered for the APBT, most breeders didn't care how it looked. They wanted a dog that could win in the pit. They didn't care if its head was huge or small and narrow, if its chest was wide and stocky, or deep and sleek. And they certainly didn't give a hoot about whether or not their tail curled. They wanted dogs that won fights.
The conformation standard, when it was finally written for the APBT, at behest of the non-dogfighting croud, was based upon dogs that were renowned for their fighting ability. One might think that they can pick out certain characteristics that will make a good pit dog, but when one looks through a book that has old photos of great and famous fighting dogs of the past, one sees that some had small, narrow heads, others had large ones. Some were short and stout, others were long and lanky. Someone like Earl Tudor, who was a famous dogfighter from the early 20th century, would tell you that what makes a winning pit bull isn't what his outer appearance is. It is in his heart. A comparison of the best fighting dogs of the past confirms this, as they all have very different features.
For that very reason, APBT's have a very flexible conformation standard. Much more so than most other breeds; especially those who have no other purpose than to be show dogs. You will notice that the most famous breeders of Beagles who breed specifically for conformation will have litters of pups that typify this standard than those who don't, but they won't even look at a rabbit. Those who breed Beagles specifically to hunt rabbits couldn't care less what they look like, and their dogs will blow away the show-Beagle breeders in field contests. Those who get full-blooded, purebred, papered Beagles from either of these breeders, and breed them in their backyards without a clue what they are doing will also have dogs that are way out of standard.
But they are still Beagles.
So no, your pit could easily be full blooded but a curly tail is definitely a disqualification as far as conformation is concerned. If you paid $150 dollars for a backyard breeder's puppy, you don't have much recourse. However if you paid top dollar, and was expecting a conformation-standard pit for your money, most reputable breeders will but your dog back from you, or replace it with another one. If the breeder isn't willing to do that on his own ethics, then you are likely SOL, unless you had some sort of a garrantee in writing.
Unless you are actually planning to go around from state to state showing your dog for cnformation, I wouldn't worry about it. Some people buy a dog of whatever breed thinking they will make big money by turning right around and breeding puppies for sale. It isn't that simple. The people who have the kind of money to pay top dollar for a puppy and are willing to fork over that money are very rarely going to visit an ad in the local paper for their next conformation champion. If they do, they are going to want to buy a puppy whose parents are champions. To haul around your dogs to different states, paying the entry fees, the hotel rooms, the gas, and taking time off from work to do this stuff is really expensive. The costs of feeding, vaccinating, worming, and papering pups is all but a full time job that costs more than it pays. If you see a breeder with a bunch of champions on his yard AND has a lot of money, you can bet that he didn't get his money from breeding and selling puppies. Doing that isn't a source of income. It's an expensive hobby. Even the most famous of breeders are lucky to break even, and they were the ones who did all the work for you.
Two things I wish to make clear before I finish...
1) Enjoy your dog's company and unconditional love. Most people have no idea how affectionate, intelligent, loyal, and trustworthy pit bulls can be; even the ones that have been used and bred for fighting. Thanks to the media, who only wants to send reporters to the home of an APBT owner if it has attacked someone, most people don't get a chance to see that although they tend to be aggressive with other dogs, that doesn't mean they are the same way with people. In fact, the breed standard for both the UKC and the ADBA will disqualify any dog that shys away or displays aggression towards the judge. People-aggressive dogs should be destroyed, regardless of the breed.
2) Dog-fighting is cruel. Although I did mention it, I don't condone it, nor do I encourage it. As unfortunate as it may be, it is a part of the history of the APBT.
I wish you the best with your dog!
BTW, a DNA test will only prove if the parents of your dog are the true parents or not. It does nothing to tell you if they are full blooded or if your dog is. No DNA test has been invented yet that can differentiate between different breeds.
