Five hundred years before Christ was born(2500 years ago), in about 520BC, the Old Testament prophet Zechariah said this about jerusalem concerning events that were to take place some day in the future..... "I will make Jerusalem and Judah like an intoxicating drink to all the nearby nations that send their armies to besiege Jerusalem. On that day I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone, a burden for the world. None of the nations who try to lift it will escape unscathed"(Zechariah 12:2,3).
We must put this in perspective. This was in 520BC just after the Babylonians had conquered Jerusalem and had destroyed it. The whole city lay in ashes and rubble. Jerusalem never was among the biggest cities in the world but now it was deserted and filled with burnt rocks. Yet the prophet said that some day this city would be a burden to the whole world. Well, we've arrived. Ask any Islamic terrorist why they're fighting and they will tell you that they want an end to the state of Isreal because Jerusalem is the 3rd holiest city in the Islamic faith. How could that prophet have known that. Only one way. He was getting his info from God. The Bible is the word of God.

The Bible tells us that Jacob was a son of Abraham around several thousand years ago. Jacob had his name changed to Israel and God promised to give the Land of Canaan to his descendants. The land of Canaan is the ancient name for the area that the Nation of Israel occupies. It was prophesied that Israel being one of the smallest nations in the world would be a source of rage and consternation to many nations. The Jewish people would be scattered around the world to be brought back as a nation to reestablish the nation of Israel. While that scattering of the Jewish people happened, the Messiah would be born in the city of Bethlehem of Israel. In1948 the nation of Israel came back into existence. The Jewish temple which was torn down by the Romans in 70 AD is to be rebuilt there where one day a world ruler would use it to declare himself to be falsely God in the latter end days. A very large coalition of nations believed to contain various Muslim nations together with Russia will come against Israel at the very end of the age and that is when Jesus the Messiah returns to save Israel and show that He is their Messiah since most Jews to this day reject Him as such. The armies that set themselves to attack Israel and wipe it out are themselves wiped out on the plains of Meggi do, Israel. Jesus will one day walk through the Jewish temple gate after his return and rule the nations for a thousand years from there till the new heaven and earth are created where all the faithful will live in a new city of God called the new Jerusalen which comes down from the heaven to be on the new earth forever. The unbelievers spend eternity in a lake of fire.

Because the bible has many prophesies that include Israel. The things going on over there right now are leading up to another prophesy; that several nations will war against Israel, and these much stronger and larger armies will be supernaturally destroyed.
This is yet to come. That is why people who know their bibles watch Israel.

It isn't. It's only a focal point for Jewish history.
Palestine and the Middle East is a focal point because it is a trade route between three continents and has been since before recorded history.
Isn't it convenient how Jews wrote a book claiming God gave them control over a primary trade route between three continents?

1. The esoteric centre of the earth--30 degrees North and 30 degrees West.
2. Israel is the centre of spirituality on earth--God's most sacred altars are there --that is why Satan puts men he controls in charge of the armies of those areas.

If I am a Chinese or and Indian from the Amazon, I really don't care about this history.
Don't confuse the history of the humanity with the history of the "western" world.

Two of the Big three religions are based on the Jewish faith. So, they have taken these histories to be their own. When in most cases they are not connected at all.
