We are currently treating our 9 yr old poodle mix for severe tartar buildup and extremely red gums.
There are no cavities or decay of any sort.
We've been using a product now for 6 weeks. It's called SUZIES TARTAR REMOVER. It's a green liquid you add to their drinking water. I can't begin to tell you how impressed we are with this stuff! Most of the tartar on her molars is gone, there is still some on her fangs though, but it's getting better. The redness in her gums has dissappeared and they look smooth and light pink now.
We're going to continue using this stuff because we know it works. I can't wait to show the vet !
It's all-natural and works by changing the PH level of their saliva, thus softening and loosening the buildup.
You can google it and see where its' sold near you.
Best Wishes

Some dogs naturally have a lot of tartar build up on their teeth. Try letting her chew on Nylabones, which frill as the dog chews and acts as a natural brush. There are also special dog treats that are supposed to help with dental hygiene, too.
You can also brush her teeth with special doggie toothpaste and a soft brush, available at pet stores. Also, canned dog food tends to cause more tooth problems than the dry stuff.
Sometimes dental problems have underlying causes that aren't immediately obvious, such as nutritional difficulties. Talk to your vet and see if he thinks that the dental problems may be caused by other health issues.

I have a dog with terrible teeth too. When he was younger had them cleaned, cost about $300. because of the anesthesia and his size. Within a month, they were getting stained again, even with me brushing them and putting that liquid stuff in his mouth. Probably try getting them cleaned, and try to maintain them. I really believe some dogs, like people, just have bad teeth.

That's so sad. Your dog obviously has gum disease since her gums are inflamed. She is a young dog who should have excellent strong teeth. You must be feeding her soft food only. (Probably table food and not dog food.) It would help if you gave her hard kibble and bits, or dog treats. If I were you, I'd tried to get pet insurance from Veterinary Pet Insurance. It pays a third of the cost of my dog's annual dental cleaning. My dog has lost some teeth, but she's remains a feisty, healthy 12-year-old. It'd be tragic if my dog didn't have any teeth left for her old age. 18 years old for Yorkies. I also brush her teeth with dog toothpaste nightly. Dogs can't wear dentures, ya know.

bite bite bite.
i asked something similar to this question a few weeks ago and go my head bit off. I have a chi that I just got a few months ago and just noticed her teeth are starting to fall out. She will be 13 sept and has never had a teeth cleaning. It is expensive I know that. ;You can try getting it's teeth cleaned regularly but that is about as much as the tooth being pulled and since it is already having problems then a lot of the teeth are probably already bad.
I would try when you go to the vet is if they have to pull the tooth the dog is going to go under anesthesia. That is the main cost of the whole ordeal the the anesthesia. I would get it's teeth cleaned and get rid of all the teeth that needs to be rid of in one shot. The vet may have to put it on antibiotics.
good luck and hope everything turns out o.k.
hey i like kimmie answer I'm going to try that myself I wish she was on here when i asked my question. well good luck

you can brush her teeth every day yourself also and get chewy bones to keep her teeth clean and strong as well as her gums. Get her teeth cleaned and taken care of .she need them to survive. How much is she worth to you.
