You can use regular whipped cream--either fresh cream that you've whipped yourself, or that stuff that comes in the can. The canned stuff really IS cream (don't use the lowfat/skim variety), which gets whipped by a a propellant (nitrous oxide).
The problem you may encounter is with the portioning. If the recipe you're using calls for (for example) 3 cups of Cool Whip, if you use exactly 3 cups of (real) whipped cream, your pie might turn out too moist, too dry, or too dense, because the ingredients in the Cool Whip may interact differently with the rest of the ingredients in the pie.
My advice would be to make a "test pie", and use maybe 10 percent more real whipped cream than the recipe calls for (Cool Whip is denser than whipped cream). Taste-test the pie, and adjust accordingly (if necessary). The test pie isn't likely to be inedible.

Heavy Cream is the best for that. lol. Even though they have told you that I know personally from working at Lehman brothers in NYC. They make everything from scratch and heavy cream took me some time to whip by hand. You just add a dash of sugar and a teaspoon of vanilla to it after its mixed. DON"T OVER BEAT IT!!! It will all go to waste if so. lol. I've done it to the point that its turned into butter, sorta. But good luck with it and send me some when its done. It will go great with my morning coffee. :)

Buy regular whipping cream in the dairy aisle, whip it with powdered sugar as directed, and try that. Also you can try Dream Whip from the box in the baking aisle.

Wow, I didn't know that! I agree to whip it yourself, but I'm glad you posted this. I thought it was pretty harmless since it is low carb and low calorie.
