Have you considered:
Australia, or New Zealand (sp?)
Singapore, or the Phillipines
Spain, Greece, or Morocco
Mexico, Brazil or Argentina
All of these are temperate, or tropical.
They all have a somewhat lower cost of living.
They all have jobs for either english speakers, american citizens, or qualified workers in a variety of fields.
Northern Austrailia is Tropical, while the rest of the country is arid or semi-arid. The southeast is a fertile plain.
Its economy is on par with major european economies. The unemployment rate is around 5.1%.
New Zealand is south of Australia, so its going to be colder (nearer the south pole). Unemployment is around 3.7%.
You can check out other locations using reference [1] to determine location, economy, and international issues.

I lived in Europe for 4 years. It is very hard for non-Italians to find jobs and Italy is NOT cheap. Also, Puerto Rico is a United States territory. Try moving to a different town or state...it may change you're whole outlook.

Don't have to go too far try Cartagena, Colombia is a real paradise for americans as well as europeans. It is warm and the people are nice. You can live there like a queen for less than a thousand box a month. As american native it would be easier for you to find a job as a teacher. Take a look at it. Or ask Donald Trump who is planning to invest hundreth of millions there.

Yes, you should be discussing this with his doctor. Is he well enough to fly? Have you thought about if you can care for him at home? Is your home appropriate for your dad in his condition? You may have to pay for a special medical plane and escort, and a hotel for his overnight stay - can you afford this? You also need to talk to your dad about financial issues if he's been out of the UK for ten years he won't be entitled to certain benefits. There is an awful lot for you to think about and arrange.
