Hi!
Trying interval training. Warm up first with slow quarter mile jog, then sprint as fast as you can for 50 or 100 yards, then jog 100 yards, and keep alternating sprinting with jogging for about a 1/4 of a mile (once around a track). Then walk or jog a lap and then repeat the intervals. Do the sequence until you can do it for a mile.
If you live near any hills, try running up hills to build your thigh strength and stamina, but go easy when running down hill. Learn to run with good posture.
Stretch after you're finished and then maybe do some weight training and exercises to strengthen your thighs. Make sure you drink water and get rest!
Good luck!

When I was in basic training they just made us run all the time and do calisthenics. Some of the running exercises we did was run for 5 min straight walk a little, run for 7 min walk a little and eventually work our way up to about 1/2 hour.
We did this almost everyday, and of course we did sprints also..
Because I was a cop when I got to tech school we ran every other day and just ran a little more everyday, to where we could run 5 miles straight.
Just keep practicing, and you'll get faster. By the end of basic females had to run 2 miles in under 21 minutes, most did it in about 18 or less...

On a track or cross country?
Either way, you need to do different running exercises other than just distance. On some days, do sprint intervals. If you're doing cross-country, run hills on some days. Also, when you do run distance, don't limit yourself to a mile. You need to run more than that to build up your endurance. Then a mile won't be so bad :)

Keep practicing. I'm 15..it takes me exactly 8:00 I did a lot of activities though. Practice makes perfect, so don't give up. Go a littlee faster everytime. Don't give up or it will bring your confidence down. Keep going even if you feel like you can't no more. You can. You just need to be self determined. At the end, you'll be proud of yourself. =)
Good luck.

Practice doing longer distances, so you wont tire when you do a mile. Also practice sprinting to help improve your speed.
