I am in Los Angeles, CALIFORNIA, USA. I know the gov. fees are $157 total, do you know a site that gives me all the info I need to go directly to Downtown Los Angeles and do it on the spot? Otherwise some services charge A LOT of money for this?

Please help!

You can do it yourself if you want but it will take you a day at least..speaking on my experience call and make an initial appt and call again to secure an earlier appt if there is any cancellation ..make an appointment before 12pm-otherwise you will be back the next day to pick it up..there will be forms right outside the fed bldg or you can download forms from the site below and make sure you have all your proper documents (proof of citizenship, 2 passport pictures)..good luck!! and of course anywhere you go you need to read the travel advisory where you are headed and update your vaccines..

Down load the application from the web, have a picture taken and go to the nearest Federal Office of the State Department that the web show as issuing passports.

Don't pay a commercial service a fee on top of the USG fee. They won't get it any faster.

Here is the basics on how to get a first passport; here is the page on expedited service.

This is what i did when I needed mine in 3 weeks time. I sent in the paper work as normal, with the paid fees and then contacted the local council members, my sister did hers faster by contacting her congressman.

there is no easy way to do it fast. You can go to almost any PO and get the papers u don't have to go down town la.

you can pay the regular fee and get it in 6wks or u can pay extra and get it in about 2wks. These r the only ways to get it.
