A wedding that is pulled off well should reflect both the bride and groom. There are friends and family from both sides and all guests should be able to see their host represented. If a theme represents both members of the wedding couple, the theme can be portrayed a little heavier. However, themes should not be taken overboard. Most people remember the cake, what the wedding party was wearing and the decorations outside. Outside decorations are the first impression. The reception is the last impression. Unless the food is horrible, people just remember if it was decorated nicely and the fellowship they enjoyed celebrating the day.
My best wedding ever was mine. I'm sure that sounds egotistical, but I was VERY happy with mine and people still mention it (2 years later) when I see them. Hints of us showed thru with the butterfly necklaces the bridesmaids wore, the frankenstein & bride of frankenstein cake topper my husband chose (not tacky at all and I picked a great cake to distract from the topper a little) and the music for the reception.
We decorated outside nicely (tulle wreaths, potted flowers on the steps and bows and ivy garland on the railings). We kept our ceremony relatively minimalistic (candles in the windows to memorialize departed loved ones, candelabras, vases of flowers and tulle pew bows). We personalized the wedding programs and favors. The reception was where we spent the money. Fabric tablecloths, fresh flowers, nice settings and fun music. And, of course, we had the bubble send-off. Couldn't have asked for more.
Good luck!

The best weddings are the ones where there is plenty of fun and laughter at the reception. The ceremony should be all about the couple, but the reception is about celebrating.
Have plenty of seating for both so that no one is uncomfortable on their feet. Have plenty of refreshments so people aren't going hungry or thirsty. Plenty of room for dancing, a too small dance floor gets feet stepped on. Think about what you can do to make sure your guests and the wedding party are having a good time, like at any other party.
For decorations and the theme, it should be about what the couple likes. It should reflect them and their attitudes. If you are both laid back easy going people, then keep the atmosphere laid back. You shouldn't try to go against your natural impulses on a wedding.
I prefer simple decorations over elaborate, but that's just me. Centerpieces and some flowers here and there. I wouldn't get heavy on the extra pieces, I think it draws too much attention. The focus should be on the happy couple, not what's hanging from the walls and ceilings. Simple and elegant is better than fancy and ornate. Whatever your colors and/or theme is for the ceremony, it should be reflected at the reception. If the bridal colors are blue and green, don't have purple or yellow decorations. Keep the colors the same throughout. It looks more naturally flowing to me.
The focus is on the couple, so many people won't remember what the decor looked like, but they will remember having a great time with a handsome couple on thier special day.

Yes, fun and elegant are definitely good attributes to strive for in a wedding. That's what we were shooting for. We were able to create a very fun, inviting, and warm atmosphere at our wedding. We used www.OnceUponATimeABQ.com to purchase a lot of the decorations and accessories. They have so many great things to make the little differences in the details of the wedding. I recommend to check them out. They have really good prices as well.

What makes a great wedding are the people there - family and friends celebrating your good fortune and wishing you well in your marriage. Kids having a great time getting to know their cousins again that they may not see often - just catching up with people you don't see all the time, except at family functions, good food, great music to dance to, all contribute to a festive atmosphere.

pick a theme, that represents the bride and groom. What do they like? You can do a fantasy theme---like cinderella and the prince. Have a castle for a cake etc. IF they are the outdoorsy types, do a wedding in a garden, and have the centerpieces be a little flowered pot, and the favors can be lil flowered candies or flower seeds. If they like beaches, then use that theme, and have sand, seashells, and use lil plastic pails for favors (put bridal couple name and wedding date on them), fill the favors with beachy stuff (lotion etc). Those are just a few thoughts.

Use a backyard subject because it will be outside. With this, you could then use many decorations you or your household would already have mutually with string sparkling string lights. you could also purchase small and espresso-value potted plant life as favors, which will be used to beautify the tables as well. also, purchase flower pots that you want and purchase some more effective plant life to beautify around the cake table, couple's table or ceremony that you will be able to later use at your own residence. when you're serving a buffet type meal or appetizers, use books to prop up platters at diverse heights. examine along with your household for white fabrics tablecloths. because this is outside, they don't all ought to examine...yet conserving all of them white will make for a cohesive seem. I have lined a area for different concepts.

I believe to have a great wedding and reception you need to have something for everyone to do. Have activities for the kids so parents don't have to worry about bored kids.

Keep it fun and elegant. Nobody wants to sit in a room full of people and have to worry about which fork to use.
