It's inappropriate behavior and the therapist needs to call the person on it. Naturally during intense times of counseling emotions will run rampant and the patient may want to vent. But no one--not the therapist or the patient's family--should be subjected to ongoing verbal abuse because it makes the person "feel better" afterwards. It's a cop-out for facing the issues at hand and dealing with them in a sensible, straightforward, productive way.

being able to express anger and rage in a therapuetic setting is one of the safest places you can do this..as long as it doenst turn physical..a good therapist will listen and help you learn how to constructively express these feelings and teach you how to look deep into why you feel this way...

I think the person hit a nerve. Think to yourself is there some truth in why the outrage happened. Facing the truth is sometimes painful.
