I was in the Marine Corps for over 6 years on active duty. A year after seperating, I got a job offer doing a good job under civilian standards but in order to get the job, I'd have to join the Air National Guard. My question is if anyone out there has gone from the Corps to the Guard, or army to guard, or navy to air force, or army to navy, etc. What was the process? Did you lose your pay grade/rank? Did you gain pay grade/rank? What about all your awards? Any and all info is much appreciated.

My husband went from active duty Army to the National Guard. Everything transferred since the Guard is just an extension of the Army.
In his Guard unit, there were several Marines. The Guard has infantry while the Marine Reserves didn't (at least here) so in order to play with all the big toys, many finished their careers in the Guard.
A recruiter will be able to tell you if you will lose any rank. Your awards and commendations are yours- you earned them! Pray your DD214 is all in order. It's a pain to try and get it corrected.
Operation Blue to Green facilitates the transfer of qualified Air Force and Navy individuals to active duty in the Army, depending on your service's willingness to release you from your current active service obligation. Selected members of the United States Marine Corp or Coast Guard, who are otherwise qualified, may be eligible for opportunities in the Army.

My husband transfered from the Marines (9 yrs and 2 months active) to the Army National Guard and he didnt lose rank as long as the have a slot for your rank and your awards will carry over as long as they are in your DD-214 form. The rest of it is up to the recruiter of the branch and what they are offering you.

In my Marine Corps unit, we had a prior Army serviceman. There were certain ribbons that he was able to wear, and some he couldn't. He did tell us that the only branch of service that you could NOT transfer into was the Marine Corps. So for all you Army Dogs out there who want to transfer into the Marine Corps, remember that you will still have to go through Marine Corps bootcamp!

It all starts with your DD214 and the reenlistment code. Yes, you can switch services, however there are a lot of factors as you will be signing a new contract which will negate the old one. There are some restrictions to this so your best bet is to contact a recruiter in each branch of service and get the individual spiels then follow up with your own research, and as you probably already know do not let your command know as it always seems to make the water a little hotter.

It depends on what each branch will accept and not accept as far as rank and awards. You need to call each branch and ask them that question.
