Does anyone know of an informative site that lists "safe" human foods for pet birds. Things such as; apples, peaches, mint leaves, oranges etc..
I know apples are safe. I'm looking for new safe foods to introduce to them!

Proud owner of A Caique, Cockatiel, African Grey and Budgie!

Thanks!

Contact Mickaboo bird rescue for info. They deal primarily with all species of birds and they are a great resource. Plus they adopt out birds too! Type Mickaboo bird rescue in search for web address.

Apple seeds: Someone wrote in to say: "Did you know that apple seeds are toxic to birds? They contain cyanide." [The apple part is just fine. Most birds love apples. Just be sure you keep them away from the seeds. --Bird HotLine]

Check out this link. It will tell you lots of ways to kill your bird or not to kill your bird. Bad foods and may other things. I printed a couple of lists from some where and hung it in the kitchen so we would not give the bad stuff to the birds. Do a search on Yahoo and google. I think i get better sites on yahoo.

Trucker girl is totally wrong about bread. The site she referenced even says that multigran bread is good for birds!

Ok, so my birds LOVE bread. They especially like soft oatmeal bread and wheat bread. My female cockatiel eats cheese when she's laying eggs because it helps keep her bones strong. Normally though I wouldn't advise cheese.

Pasta and corn on the cobb are also good. My parakeets like banannas.

i am a proud owner of an african grey the only thing you can not give them is chocolate . you can give them apples but not the seeds. give them macaroni, bologna, mash potatoes, beans any thing that you would eat. but around christmas time keep them away from poinsetta plants. these are poisinous to your birds.keep them away from a lot of salt and sugar also.

I've heard that avocados are poisonous to birds. No bread - anything with yeast is bad too. Avoid dairy products like cheese. This website has alot of diet advise for birds.
