Bc I'm very interested in a career in dentistry but am weak in the stomach in terms of smells (I feel like puking and running far far away).

We wear masks although it aren't useful at all for those with VERY overpowering bad breath. I just hold my breath and reinforce my oral hygiene instructions to the patient to brush the tongue which is the source of the bad breath!! =)

I don't think that the dental field is right for you if you have a weak stomach, there are many really gross things in dentistry and bad breath is the least of them. But wearing a mask blocks out most of the odors and if it is really bad you can ask the patient to rinse their mouth with mouth wash, i just tell them that i want to reduce the bacteria in their mouth before we start working, that way the patients feelings don't get hurt and i don't have to smell them.

I'm not a dental professional at all. But a cousin of mine is a dental hygenist and has lots of funny stories. But she's the one laughing when it comes time to cash her cheque as after only two years in the field she earns $36 per hour.
