Yes they are, I actually have a 06 Mariner Premium. I bought the truck after owning a 05 Volkswagen Touareg. The VW was a gas hog and needing premium fuel it was kiling me at the pumps. I lived in NH before going overseas, the Mercury handles great in the bad weather and going off road too, I nearly died when the truck went on trails the VW wouldnt touch.
Great little truck, good fuel mileage and very darn good build quality. Its an American made vehicle and its as good if not better than any Toyota or Honda.

In a word, NO!
NO SUV is good when you think of fuel efficiencey, handling, or safety.
the Mariner Hybrid isn't bad, but if you have that big a budget, you could do better unless you need to haul 6 kids every day.

Ford Escape, Mazda Tribute and all made out of tickey tackey and they all come out just the same. Don't be fooled by a ford taurus pumped up into a SUV. Just one more step up get you much more truck

if u have the cash i would go with a non american made car...
they can somtimes coast more
its a fact that nissan honda acura bmw toyota and all those other car companies build better cars them american made cars
i cant believe you guys would say that! SUV's have great handling ( all weel drive or 4 weel drive ) safe, rides higher up then a car and lots of room!

Try buying a car instead of a gas-hogging, environment destroying SUV! They don't really have much more space than a 4-door family type car. If you need to haul stuff, get a small pick-up.
