Why do most think masturbation is wrong? I think it's fine and natural....but (if you believe it is wrong) why do you feel that way? And what is the "punishment" for masturbation?

Judging from some of these answers, it looks like every 13-year-old boy just needs to get himself a wife!

Every sperm a potential soul? Only one out of TRILLIONS over the course of a lifetime of ejaculations will ever fertilize an egg. One teaspoon of semen has about 50-100 million sperm!

I don't think marriage is a good alternative to jerking off. Neither is sex with the closest female who will lay you.

Masturbation is wrong because it teaches us to be selfish with our sexuality. Sex is about giving, and when two spouses put their all into giving of themselves to eachother without reservation, they will reach heights that are a foretaste of heaven. They can't get to this place if they are just using eachother as objects for their own gratification, and that is what masturbation conditions you to do.

It is the difference between love and lust. One is God-given and the other is a cheap imitation devised by satan to lure you away from the real thing.

As with all sin, the punishment for masturbation is separation from God.

speaking as a Christian(Catholic) masturbator i find that it is fine and dandy.

it is considered against the teachings of the Bible as far back as the sin of Onan, son of Judah. The Bible states that Onan offended GOD by having relations with Tamar and wasting his seed on the ground(self explanitory). He did this because he had taken Tamar as his wife after his older brother had also offended GOD and was stricken down.
back in the days of the Old Testament, it was common practice for a brother to assume his older brother's responsibilities if said brother was killed or died too soon. Onan worried that any children he would sire with tamar would not be seen as his. Imagine if you impregnated your wife or girlfriend and were told that they would have to take your brothers name because you were doing his wife and only doing that because you were obligated by your family to do so.If you ever get the oppurtunity to read the story of Judah and Tamar in Genesis it is fairly intersting. You may upset a few of the Christians though.
Jesus Christ descended directly from the sinful relationship that Judah and Tamar had.

valkyrie is kinda right, the purpose of sex is for a man and a woman to mate (remember God said you need to be married) and produce a new life. Not just to do whatever the hell we want; God made the sperm for the purpse of merging with the egg and 9 months (or is it 8?) later a child would be born to help continue the species.
So it's wrong becuase that's a waste of sperm and goes against the purpose of what it was made for. Not to get off track, but the argument is same for homosexuality; it goes against the purpose for wich the man and woman were made. The penis and vigina, the sperm and the egg; masterbation and homosexuality completely go againt the purpose and reason for which the sexual parts were made.

All deeds are either good or bad morally. It is in the category of bad but at lower level.Between adultery and masturbation, it is lesser evil. Some scholars think in Islam if there is fear of adultery and one commits masturbation in order to avoid adultry, it may be condonable.Sorry you had asked Christians but I thought I would also give in some input.

What is wrong with you Monday's? What kind of a question is this?
Christians think for the very same reason you think. What does masturbation have to do with anything.

This is religion and spirituality. Not a sex therapy log.

Keep your mind on what the Word teaches and you will do well. And leave your body parts alone.

Onan's sin was not providing his dead brother with an heir, not the act of spilling his seed. However, this is where the masturbation is a sin thing came from.

St Thomas Aquinas felt that the soul (or at least a potential soul) resided in semen -- so any sexual activity that was not directed towards procreation was sinful, because it wasted potential souls.

Much of what Aquinas believed became Christian doctrine.

I've seen and heard Christians advise that if it's either that or you'll be tempted to bring somebody else into it, go ahead and masturbate.

And LOL at "God"!

Why not make a decision for yourself. This is a private matter and if you believe in God it's between you and Him.

Leave out the middle man.
