It's because of what C.S. Lewis called "the great sin".
Pride.
"..The most loathed vice. Of which most people, except christians, ever imagine they're guilty of themselves..."
"...at the same time, I have not met anybody who was not a christian, who showed any mercy towards it..."
The devil uses pride to twist and turn us. To build us up and to cut us down. Pride will be the death of us if we let it.
However, by asking for the grace to over come this, and by putting our trust in God we will learn. Oh yes, we will learn.
The question is, who wants to learn?
I think the strangest phenomenon is the assumed pride. Try expressing a truly christian opinion and damn will you be thought of as a prideful asshole. Even if you didn't mean it that way. I suppose it's like people who used to make racist comments to me assuming I agreed. However, I think hatred is much different than morality.
Back to C.S. Lewis. He also made a comment on christian pride. Those who, "...give a penny of humility, and take a dollar in pride/self-righteousness"

Judged? no.
It absolutley is part of a "judging" process. Come on now, You know this. If you see a Grizzly Bear in your front yard, do you judge it's cover or assume it is there too trick-or-treat? with YOU being the treat :)P
hahahaha
Yesssssssssssssss. I absoluelty do. For a reason. A Christian is to Judge EVERYTHING. 1 Thess.
Good Question.

Sure, I've done it. I know it is not always a good thing. Although, sometimes there are some things on the exterior that can give you a clue about what you will find on the interior. I'm always prepared to be proven wrong, and I try to always treat everyone well.

It's hard not to make snap judgements about people based on their appearance or first impression. I believe that by nature we like to know people and if you've just met a person, it's hard to know what they're all about- thus we make our own judgements based on whatever we see at that moment.
We all do it and I don't think we'll ever stop doing it, it's just something in our nature... that's not to say it's a good thing though.

I think everyone has done this even if they try not to. I try not to judge people, but say I see a person who is dressed in practically nothing, my first thought is not that she's conservative as far as her lifestyle. That's just my first impression. I know that doesn't make it true, but that's just what a first impression is....a judgment.

my husband was is a person with tattoos (alot of tattoos) and he used to wear a hankerchief on his head when he would work on the car and i would hate it..and i would hate when he did not wear a shirt cause of his tattoos
until one time he told me i was selfish ...that i was judgeing him by his looks or what others would think ...since he told me that I have never judged anyone with tattoos and hankys on their head lol I dont know why we do that but it is very selfish when we do judge others by the cover and not what is in side ...

Of course... hasn't everyone at SOME point? It's due to evolution believe it or not. When we see something that appears threatening we get into fight or flight mode... this is from when we were in the wild and had to in order to survive. The ones who survived long enough to procreate probably did so because they perceived more things as threats and retreated in time. Therefore nowadays we tend to judge someone or something that seems threatening at a glance.

of course I do....all the time...but I never say anything until I know about them...actually, I never say anything at all....one time, I met this girl, and she was really inatractive...to me....you know, I don't care any more, but my first though on meeting her was 'oh my gosh...she is reallly ugly!'....now shes my dearest friend, and I think she is so beautiful! once you get to know them, the way you see them is different! all people judge, some more than others, some don't say anything, but still think the thoughts!

I catch myself doing this once in a while only to find out that I am wrong once I get to know the person. Sometimes I am not wrong, but most of the time I am.
