Why is it so hard for people ( and I hate to say it but mostly Christians) to aknowledge (and yes, I know I spelled that wrong) that it just might be that all of the Gods of the world are the same?

Jesus Christ, Nature, FSM, Allah, Denu, all of them are the same and we are fighting over names, silly superficial names?

If we could all stop fighting and just know that your God is my God and all of are Gods are the one true God.

Why can't we do that?

Why does your God have to be the one true God?

Ok, so why does Jesus have to be the best? Why can't my Nature belief be the same as your Savior belief. They both provide and save. They are the same with two different (and many more) names!

I'm not saying that your God isnt the true God, I'm saying my God is the true god and your God is the true god and allah is a true God because they are all the same person...

Like, if your name is Rachel, but your friend calls you Rache, and I call you Bob, would you not be the same person to both of us, just with two different names?

I am really trying to understand this.

As a Pagan i would say that the main point of arguement i would have against your statement would be .

There are many gods with differant personalities.

the christian god swore to never again (untill the revelation) take a direct hand in the path of man.)

*************************************************************

I must add, that the pagan traditions do not believe in a hell or a place of eternal suffering. i think that any god that uses a fear tactic like this to force people to follow him is probally not worth worshiping. however i think that hells role in the afterlife is mory church hype to get members and tithes rather than any intent of Jesus.

the pagan gods never made such a promise.

however all realigions basicaly teach the same concepts...

love peace and happiness

have faith in your god/gods

so i really do not see why so many people feel so threatened by the simple thought that there may be more than one god out there.

ok.. lets just say that what you said was true and that God is in all those people you listed and those were his different names. how would that work? Just recently an islamic leader released a statement saying the it was ok by him that a great number (I forget) of christians should be killed. how could the same God allow this? how could you even make sense of all the contradictions of beliefs without closing your eyes and picking the ones your finger lands on. your searching for truth right? so wouldn't that mean that for something to be true that it would have to exclude something else that isn't? People think that Christians are REALLY intolerent, but what about islam, the so called religion of peace. there only idea of peace is when the whole world has converted to islam and any one who is in their country who hasn't converted will be given the chance to convert or die.
To touch on your comment that all of the gods listed were the same..... they really aren't. Is it a wonder why most people in the middle east who are opressed religiously are so facinated with jesus when he is talked about.... thats because the concept of forgiveness is litterally unheard of. to have ALL of your sins forgiven and a ticket to heaven, I could see why people would want to hear more.
I'm not keep going but I will say that I am a christian who has had many problems in my life that has caused me to look at the foundation of my beliefs and that of others. if I could suggest "the Case for Faith" which was written by a previous atheist gone christian who dealt with many of the problems that it sounds like you might be dealing with. its a really good book...Newyorktimes best seller. but other than that right now all I can do is say that I'm praying for you and hope that the One and only true God of this world would answer your question.

I have wondered this myself like the native americans believed in the great spirit i always felt that the great spirit and the chritian God were the same or maybe i should say the Jewish God. I mean the only difference between the Jewish God and the Christian God is the Christians have Jesus as their savior and the Jews are still looking for the messiah.

Simple really -- as a Christian who believes the Bible, I don't have the option or the luxury of changing its message. If I change it to suit myself, others, or the current views of culture, then it's no longer Biblical Christianity. The Bible, both Old and New Testaments, consistently teach that salvation is narrowly defined and that the LORD God is not like the gods of other nations.

Unfortunately, as you have experienced, many folks who profess Christianity do so in an obnoxious fashion -- but that is wrong too, because the Bible says that Christ's followers should keep their faith in a spirit of respect and reverence for others.

I could go on. I'm confident you might reply with a list of follow-up questions, and perhaps objections -- but this will do for now...

There is only ONE true GOD! Christians aren't trying to pick fights with anyone. What are you on about?!? Muslims etc are the ones who wanna fight for a stupid reason and claiming that they are doing it in the name of GOD. Every religion has a name for God. People shouldn't fight over what name is right or wrong, that is all silly. Do you know what JESUS means? Look it up, it is not a silly superficial name. The Lord says - you can't worship other Gods, there are NO other GODS. He is the only ONE! Do you believe in God? It doesn't sound like it to me. May MY God Bless you!

I don't think that there is only one "true" god. I think there are many and none are all-powerful, all-knowing, all-positive, or all-negative. But I see no reason to believe that there is only one deity in the universe. I've never been able to understand one lone deity. Why not 2 or 30 or 4000? It just doesn't compute in my brain that there would be only one. Of course none of us can prove our beliefs are fact and I am not saying that my beliefs are better or worse than any other beliefs. Just tossing in another perspective.

Because he IS the ONLY ONE and the ONLY TRUE God! I don't understand how you could doubt that? Jesus is not a silly superficial name. There can't be 20 'One True God' s. There is one. And when I die, and if I go to a bad place because I didn't believe in the God that I was suppose to believe in, then I'll say: "Okay! Whatever!" because I know 100% that my God is true and right. All the God's are the one God... Because some people don't believe in the other Gods. (That aren't real.) There is one. It says that in the 10 Commandments.

Hope I helped!

Because most of the major religions claim different things.

e.g.

Christianity says faith alone.
Islam says faith and good works.
Buddhism says good works.

If you believe in God, you can't also believe that all of the above is true. Someone once said a point in every direction is pointless.

Christianity is based on FAITH. I do not think you can be lead to the understanding of it in this forum. I see many people are trying to help clear it up.

Why does my God have to be the 1 true god, because in the Old Testament &Torah he said he was.

Each "Religion" believes it is THE ONE. You name several others, but if you will explore them you will find they are as staunch in their stand as Christians are.

There is only one God, sometimes God himself comes to the material world to attract the living entities back to the spiritual world, other times he sends his son, prophet or representative, the son or representative says "love my father" and God says "love me".

So your realisation is very nice because it transcends the sectarian fundamental thinking that produces so much friction and hostility.

The real path of spiritual development is to attain love for God, non violence toward all living entities and world peace. Each individual soul is attracted to a certain cultural conditioning, therefore there are different representatives in different cultures, so I think your question reflects an advanced spiritual nature.
