I'm gonna be making jamaican beef pattie, and for the pastry one of the ingredient is solid shortening, and I was wondering what's a solid shortening?

Yep, Crisco is "shortening" but it is hydrogenated vegetable oil. Use "lard" it has better flavor and is "all natural". I use it in pie crust and it kicks butt all over the fake stuff.

Well, I am from Jamaica and to make our famous beef patties, the solid shortening is also known as butter, margarine, lard or solid vegetable shortening!

Crisco or other hydrogenated vegetable oil

Comes in a can, and it's white. Unless you get the butter-flavored, then it's yellow.
