If you live in the US, knowing standard English is a positive for conducting your personal affairs.
As far as not learning Spanish, it is probably a missed opporunity, that you can still correct.
Too few of my relatives made the effort to keep our native tongue alive. In an all out attempt to become American so they could make it here on their own terms, (they would rather have killed themselves than go on welfare) many chose not to teach it to their children. It was almost gone by the third generation.
I think it should be law that all people in the US speak standard English, and that ALL should also be fluent in a second language of their choce before graduating high school.

Not wrong at all. Do you want to speak Spanish? How about French? or perhaps one of the many endagered languages? (Tibet is losing it's native culture to the Chinese regime that is only now learning from past mistakes. You could help keep that culture alive and educate the world to this great loss).

And if you only want to speak English that's ok too. I'm all for being multilingual, but I'm not the boss of you. You do what you like.

From my journey its uncommon to ensure a black american prepared to study spanish and talk it fluently. Theres not something incorrect with this, if something it really is going to be inspired extra contained in the american college equipment, to study yet another language (any). bear in mind that "hispanic" isn't a race, its a. ethnicity, so hispanic can advise countless issues, you could be white. blacl, mestizo or the different blend race. there is an excellent type of black hispanics contained in the international so human beings may confuse you for one.

No. I know plenty of hispanic people that only speak english. Their parents just never taught them or they chose not to learn. Being bilingual is great but not required.

Yes. There are allot of people whom only speak one language that have parents or ancestry from many countries around the world.. I say speak the language of the country you reside in. Hispanics have very small minds and dream of going back to what ever country they immigrated from. As for being born here, never be ashamed of what you are. I try to be the best at what i do. In my work i insist that you speak English and if you don;t your out the door in heart beat.

I'm German, Irish and English and was born in America. The only German I know is from the Volkswagon commercials and couldn't begin to speak any Gaelic. If you want to learn it go for it but I wouldn't feel ashamed.

Speaking Spanish among family and friends is fine. It is rude and improper to speak a language in front of someone who does not speak that language. Everyone living in America should know how to speak English.
