I've seen many websites about getting a private pilot license, but they only are good for single engine planes. What do I have to do to be licensed to fly a small jet like a learjet?

The learjet is a turbine powered aircraft with two engines. So, the FAA requires you to have AT LEAST a private pilot multi engine license and since its turbine you would have to have a type rating (specific type training and checkride in that aircraft) Instrument rating is not required, though would be very helpful, and the only time you would need a commercial license would be if you were getting paid to fly the jet. If its yours, a private license is all you need.

You would need to progress through the different license levels: Private, Instrument, Commercial. Then you will need Multi-Engine endorsements and a LearJet type rating. There are private flight schools and colleges that will teach you what you need to know. It takes time and money, tho. Many private Lear jobs require you to have the top license level of ATP or Airline Transport Pilot, just like the guys flying the big iron.

You'll need to get your commercial and instrument ratings, multi-engine turbine and the Lear type rating. And I may be wrong on this item, but I believe that the Lear is a 2-pilot airplane.

Your best bet would be to call the faa and ask them. You can get licenses for small personal jets that are different for commercial. My grandfather had one about 20yrs ago. He had to go through the FAA Im sure that it wouldnt be to different now
