Potassium is good, but it is poorly absorbed from supplements - eat lots and lots of fresh fruits and veggies (not just bananas). My mother always swore by Vitamin E supplements (400iu of natural or 800iu of synthetic) to stop leg cramps, and it seems to work for me, too, but it may take a couple of weeks if you are really low on it. If you have been given diuretics, you need to replace magnesium as well as potassium. Magnesium is also poorly absorbed in supplement form (and makes your bowels loose); the best way to get it is to eat losts of leafy greens - lots! - or get a shot from your doctor.
Good luck - these things REALLY hurt. BTW, a nurse once told me to press down HARD on my heel (toes pointing up) to stop calf cramps - that really works but doesn't prevent them.

Besides eating bananas and water do work well also try this as well. Try using lavender oil 2 drop too 1\2 cup of olive oil shake apply a little bit at time on the area of your where u feel the most relax . Once you apply that on you will start to feel the cramp leaving.

The reason you get cramps is probably due to a lack of potassium. That causes what is normal called "charlie horses". Taking potassium pills, drinking propel fitness water, or taking a multi-vitamin(like centrium) immediately before bed should help. Thats what I did and I haven't had any cramps in a while.

O.k here is one my mom can answer. Let me go get her. Well I get really bad leg cramps also. My doctor told me to drink more milk for calcium and eat bananas for potassium. I have also recently started trying salt and mustard because someone told me those had things in them to help leg cramps also. Good luck

This is what worked for me. Eat a banana before bed each night ( they have potassium)and take a mixture of magnesium and calcium tablets or liquid about an hour before bed.Might take about 2 weeks to start working depending on how depleted your mineral levels are.Good luck.

The minute you wake up, stand up gently and then slowly take a few steps. Keep a water bottle by your bed and keep hydrated, these cramps are quite frenquently from dehydration.

Sounds like dehydration. Add a little more potasium to your diet.
Eat a banana every morning before work and cut back on alcohol and caffien.Make sure you get enough water in your system every day.If the problem continues or gets worse,go see your M.D.

If your eating fairly balanced diet taking vitamins, and it is still occurring will offer two other suggestions. Don't eat to heavy a meal to close to going to bed. Try a ma tress warmer. Don't exactly remember what they are called JC Penney has offered good one.

It could be all kinds of things like dehydration low potassium. You need to see your doctor. I keep a bottle of water on my nightstand and eat a banana everyday. I use to have them real bad.

You can go to the docs bcuz it might be something serious. But try drinking tonic water I am not sure how it works but it helps also try soaking your legs in warm water and eat or drink dairy(for the calcium).
