I am having my top teeth extracted and getting a plate. The procedure is Thursday and I am doing with conscience sedation. It take a pill Wed night and 1 an hour before the appointment. They tell me I will be awake but won't care what is going on. I'm a little nervous. Hasve yopu or someone you know been sedatged like this? Does time fly? Will I really be aware of my surroundings?

I had this done when I got my upper plate. I do not remember leaving the house, traveling to the dentist. I vaguely recall entering the dentists office. I remember one or two moments "in the chair", but can't really tell you what I remember, just that I was in the chair. I don't remember leaving the office or the drive home, but do remember climbing into my bed once I got there. Pretty much blacked out the whole time. I sure hope I didn't say anything really stupid along the way (probably did, LOL). It is a good way to get lots of dental work done!

Sort of... I had oral sedation a couple of weeks ago. I took two pills at the office and fell asleep for a couple of hours--it's the best! I fell asleep for about 4 and a half hours and then I was awake for the next couple of hours during the appointment (I was there for about 7 hours total). For me time flew once I fell asleep and then when I woke up--I was a little dazed but I didn't care what was going on, yet I wasn't completely out of it. Good luck.

This works well for some people. Usually the pill is some form of Valium and depending on how sensitive you are to the medicine you could be totally out of it or you may just be very relaxed. You will know what is going on but you shouldn't really care and you wont have any concept of time. My office does this from time to time and it has always worked very well. Good luck on Thursday.

No. I always get Nitrous Oxide which does the same thing and it's awesome. I look forward to my dentist appointments.
