You are not just relaxed. You are so relaxed you close your eyes but you aren't actually sleeping because if the dentist talks to you, you will talk back.
You are inbetween Alpha and Theta, or perhaps in Theta, but never reach Delta (deep sleep).
It is such a stress releaser, i.e., if you had a tough month at the office. You realize while your under nothing matters, even the bs in your life and you remember not to sweat the small stuff.

If you fall asleep than you are getting way too much gas. It should be a combination of nitrous and oxygen. You should feel relaxed but not sleepy, it is used to take the edge off for people who are anxious. But it also has been known to have the reverse affect on kids.

Nitrous Oxide, N2O, also called laughing gas, is a colourless gas with pleasant, sweetish odour and taste, which when inhaled produces insensibility to pain preceded by mild hysteria or laughter.
Nitrous oxide was discovered by the English chemist Joseph Priestley in 1772, but was named nitrous oxide by Humphry Davy. The principal use of nitrous oxide is as an anesthetic in surgical operations of short duration as prolonged inhalation of nitrous oxide can cause death

My dentist has this for those who want it. I have seen people who have used it drooling in a stupor and others mildly affected. Personally, I do okay without it. I am far more afraid of nitrous oxide than I am of the dental work. Give me the shot and my MP3 player and I'm fine.

Nothing works for me at the dentist. Those pills, the gas, the numbing things they put on the gum and tooth so I feel everything. And people wonder why I don't like the dentist; they even did all three/four (depends) on me, didn't work.

It made me very hyper sensitive to the pain. I did not like it because I kept feeling the drilling which sucked. However, when the dentist asked the nurse to wipe my mouth I thought it was the funniest thing I had ever heard.

have not had it considering i grew to become into 17. I had it as quickly as as sedation (low dose) yet plenty favorite it as a wide-spread anaesthetic. i grew to become into scared the 1st time yet have been given to like it. i am going this solid candy smell and then interior a pair of seconds each little thing grew to become right into a blur and that i felt truly solid and could no longer sense something. appeared to awaken particularly quickly although. under no circumstances have been given nauseous after although some human beings do. I basically have been given a great buzzy feeling after. substantial snag grew to become into that I wasn't allowed breakfast and complicated to eat quickly after an extraction or diverse fillings.

At the proper mix, it just makes you very relaxed, almost as though you're day-dreaming.
