The kitten is one month old.Never was sick before. Our vet (the only one in town) refuse to treat kittens under two months.I have no other vet to go to, so would try any homemade cure, if anyone know anything good.I'm giving it antybiotics, every six hours and it had its first kitten parasite tablet day before yeasterday. We had to hurry that, cause mother had some parasites while ago and we fear she somehow get them again. Kitten does not show signs of parasites. It still eat (milk and bisquites, fed by suringe from its second week (mother didn't have enough milk)), but it eats rarely and very poor. Most time it spend dozing and even awake, rarely moving. There is no mucus around his nose. It seam to me it does not have a fever and still breathing normal speed, but sometime shallow. Also,it seam to me its throat is little tumid. Is propolis tincture of any use in this sort of cases? What about of echinacea drops? What is a dosage of any of it sutable for one monts old kitten? Any other help?

I don't know what to tell you to help you with the sick kitten. But after this is over i would report the vet to the state licensing board. Refusing to treat kittens under 2 months is unheard of and against his hypocratic oath he takes when he became a vet.

Well, first...you should be feeding it kitten formula(you can buy it at walmart) I use kmr ot harts brand. It cames in a powder form. Then buy a kitten nursing bottle. They would have that too. At 1 month old this kitten should be eating about every 4hours. but since this one is not eating right now I would try every 3 hours. It probably will drinkabout 1-2 teaspoons to start out. But don't feed it whole milk or any other food. Just the formula. Make sure the mom is keeping the kitten warm. The kitten doesn't sound sick...it just sounds like mom's milk dried up and it needs milk. But if it has a runny nose and is sneezing or coughing and has gunk in it's eyes then it probably has an upper ruspiratory infection. Those can't be treated. The only thing that can be treated is the eyes. My vet gave me eye drops (neomycin and polymyxin b sulfates and dexamethasone opthalmic suspension usp) And my kittens were about 3 weeks old when I gat them on eye drops. You can only get them from the vet. Is there any other vet in another town close by that you can call?

A one month old kitten should just be starting to get weaned. Feed it only kitten milk replacer, not regular milk. At this age you can start to offer it canned kitten food mixed with milk. That sounds like a lot of antibiotics for a 1 month old kitten...some antibiotics are dangerous. Did the vet prescribe them? It sounds very weak. The parasite tablet may have only gotten one parasite, but not other kinds. Use pyrantel pamoate as directed to deworm. It is safe and gets hookworms and roundworms. I never heard of propolis tincture, so can't recommend it. Warm the kitten up and give it a few drops of warm kitten milk every few minutes. No echinacea at this stage. It doesn't sound good when such a young kitten is this sick. A trip to the vet might be the only way to save it. Look for a vet out of town if possible. It is ridiculous that your vet won't treat a kitten under 2 months old. If that is true, you should report him to the veterinary board.

Yes - she does sound malnourished. Milk replacement for this sick kitty, find at any pet supply store, also try canned (soft) kitten food. If she has parasites, a proper vet should be able to treat. If she has fever, there also could be some type of infection. If she is acting very lathargic, this is not a good sign - Vet care is really the best way to go. If this is unavailable to you - check out Purina web site or call - i believe they have an 800 #. Also check with your local animal shelter - usually they will have a vet on hand or vet technician.

where did you get the antibiotics , why are you giving them and what are they, this is a high dose for this young of a kitten and they can be causing breathing problems and making him sluggish, do not give cows milk, get a kitten replacement milk, do not use herbs on the little guy, they cannot handle a lot of things as of yet. canned food would be alright in small quanities several times a day along with the milk replacement, try to find a vet somewhere or contact the humane shelter and they can refer you to someone, i suggest you take him off the antibiotics unless prescribed by a vet, as antibiotics can cause the loss of appetite ,breathing problems can be a sign of overdose, and sluggishness. also in this young of kitten parasite meds can cause problems if they are not the right meds and dosage. really need to see a vet.....good luck

the kittens system is stressed enough as it is. adding more is just going to make it worse.
it needs a slight loy warm heating pad, milk every three to four hours, stop the anti biotics they may be too strong for the little tyke's system.
it may be too far gone yet, but then I've seen kittens do some miraculous things at this age.
the less movement and disturbance, the better, but it does need to know that someone is near and to feel touch as much as possible.
take the solid food out of the picture until she perks up a bit.
if any food at all, then use the juice off the canned food, or tuna oil. it works wonders for the tiney ones.
Thsi kitten may not be able to make it, but give it every chance you can and she may surprise you.

You can use golden seal and echinacea extract. Make sure it's alcohol free. Just give about 2 drops 3 times a day. Also you can feed the kitten baby food. Stage 1 or 2. Look for turkey in gravy or turkey in broth. Feed the kitten small meals several times a day.

Go to a different vet.. i go to a vet about 30 miles away because he is cheaper and treats my cat better than the one closest to me did.
PS I've never heard of a vet not treating a kitten under a certain age!

ALL vets will treat young kittens! Please do NOT treat this baby without consultation. You do not mention the kitten's symptoms and that concerns me. A kitten at 2 weeks should have been fed a kitten milk replacement formula, not milk and biscuits. My guess is that this little soul is suffering from malnourishment. But without a list of symptoms except for what you deem is normal.... and um... yeah... do you KNOW what is normal for a young kitten? PLEASE seek immediate veterinary care for this baby and do NOT treat on your own.

if you have a tractor supply nearby, they have vets come in and treat pets. Shots for rabies are less than half what the reg. vets charge. Maybe you can call your local humane society, pet shelter and explain your problem. they may be able to help. good luck. Ill pray for the wee kitten-
