Yes they just need a little while to adjust to their new surroundings. Remember, this is not the first time they have gone thru this transition. They started off at the vendors who bred them, then moved to the pet store (where I am assuming) you got them, then moved to your house. Give them some time & space for a good week or two.

Also, most finches do well in groups. You may want to consider getting a couple more to add to your "society".

Add some millet in their cage as this is a great way to get a bird to settle down & begin to eat & behave in a more normal fashion.

Good luck!

Make sure you have one side or the back of the cage to a wall to give them the feeling of a little privacy. Or put the cage in a corner so they will have two sides blocked and put the cage in a place where they can look out and see what is going on. I do not have a finche but both of my birds would stand back by the wall when I first got them. I guess they feel that they can turn their backs to the wall and not fear something from behind.

But they will need a couple of weeks and you need to stop in front of the cage and talk to them. Never from the sides. Be the same every time you show up. If you have small kids don't let them poke at the cage and please make the kids slow down when near the cage. Walk not fly by at warp 9. Kids really bother birds they are too fast moving and loud and always poking at the bird and might get bit as wel.

I have 11 zebra finches. I started out with two as well and within no time after getting them they began to reproduce. They're still nervous and just need some time to adjust, just relax and let them get comfortable.

Give them time to adjust to their new surroundings. My cockateils were very skitish now they are all o'er us as a part of the family.
