what happens to illegal immigrants?

I have a school assingment on illegal immigrants and i cant find info, how do they get hereand what happens to them?

They come mainly thru Mexico. And yes the mayority are Mexicans, some are from Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua and some other countries from South America. The majority come in search of the dream of a better life. They come here looking for work. Believe me they don't think about the welfare, or food stamps, etc., They are forced to leave their homes in order to survive. If they are lucky they will get here after a long journey, they will either cross the dessert (many people died in the attempt), the river(thousand have drown), or will hide in vehicles (trains, cars, trailers, etc.). They pay a fee ($3,000) to an individual that commits to guide them in the journey.

Like I said, if they are lucky and survive, once here they look for a job, any job. Most of them work in the fields or performing very low paying jobs. They usually work and save their money to send it back to their families. They spent years hiding, missing their families, longing for the day to go back. They live in poor conditions, sometimes few of them get together and share a room. If they get caught they are deported to their country, most of the times immediately. If they come back and get caught again, they are placed in jail for 6, 9, or 12 months; then deported.

Most of the illegal's story goes as described above, but there are also bad people like the "Maras Salvatruchas" a gang from El Salvador that has crossed the border and has a record of crimes in this Country already. They area given bad reputation to the Hispanic immigrants. But most of the illegal immigrants are just decent people in search for a better life.

Some sneak across the border, across the desert in places like Arizona or New Mexico. Often they pay a guide, know as a coyote in the south west, who leads them across the border. This can be on foot or in a van, sometimes hidden in various parts of a car like the dashboard. That's in case they get stopped by the border patrol. What happens in a lot of cases is the coyotes will hold the illegal prisoner while they try to reach a relative in the state. This to extort additional money from the aliens family who may already be in this country. If the coyote doesn't get more money he forces the alien to go back. Aliens sneaking across only accounts for about half of illegal aliens. Other aliens come in across the Canadian border, which is not as heavily protected as the Mexican border. Still others fly in, obtain a tourist visa, then don't leave when they are supposed to. Hope this helps.

The majority of illegal immigrants in Australi today are people who arrived legitimately on tourist/work visas but overstayed their visa. So basically they arrived by commercial transport.

Then there is the "boat people" element. By large these people pay human smugglers money. They are then packed onto unseaworthy boats in countries like Indonesia and sent towards our northern, largely unpopulated shores. Some may make it to land, but I think most get caught.

Once an illegal immigrant is discovered there are numerous avenues. Firstly the immigrant may claim that he/she is a refugee. We are then bound by international law to assess their application. However in Australia at the moment we are treating these people attrociously. We are sending them to "offshore detention centres" and other horrid "jails" like Woomera whilst the Department of Immigration assesses their application. You really should be able to find a stack of info about this on the net.

In the case of people who overstay their visas they are generally sent back to their own countries etc.

some illegals get sent back where they came from.that is if they get caught by immigration officials however they still get american jods make american money then when they get paid they send all their money home which really make the american people look stupid for allowin this whole thing to happen most of them never learn one word of english but they want all the benefits the american peope whch is the only reason they come herebut they should never be allowed to work in the united states the only thing they can do is get a fake id and social security card so they can work i feel that if they want to work in this country they should at least make the effort to ecome legaland at least learm the language

then they invite the rest of their family and they all live on welfare which is paid out of the taxes of your dad's paycheck.

don't worry though, the mexicans say their gonna take over, so when that happens, the USA will be a third world country, and you can move to Canada and take advantage of their system. you get free health care in Canada! its just like the free health care the illegals get here in the USA

If you mean "What happens to illegal immigrants that get caught", they are captured and sent back across the border with a note that warns them not to come back, and if they do they will face prison and what not.

properly, the Conventions are extra beneficial information now, than unlawful extraterrestrial beings! in spite of the shown fact that, the "unlawful" situation continues to be on the burner. i observed and waited for Obamas 'stand' in it. i became Pleasantly shocked to pay attention he Proposes to circulate after Employers of Illegals! He suggested 'no longer something' approximately Amnesty basically that he might circulate after/make it tougher for those Employers and that they could be dealt with in accordance with our regulations! The swim, they fly, they run, they ride, they sneak. After they get here they have families, they live on welfare, they use our hospitals free, they get in gangs, then when they're caught, they say "my kids were born here, therefore they are citizens so you can't deport us.
