There is a great chance that there is a thyroid disorder here. But more likely it comes from poor eating habits and inactivity. Choosing the right foods for her and not allowing her to eat what she wants is a start. Also DO NOT reward good behavior with food. Start some kind of exercise program, but don't call it that. Just get the girl active.

You may encourage her to exercise. Walking is a way to get fit. To remain fit she may begin eating until she's full. Her mother will have to ask her daughter, "Do you feel hungry anymore? You like to take a small walk?" This pattern: If your friend likes this idea, then she may repeat this pattern.

Only with the supervision of a pediatrician. Your child needs good nutrition, exercise and a reduction in her caloric intake. She needs a complete examination so the health care provider can determine her best course of action. This child is too young to try unsupervised dieting. She is a developing child and needs professional guidance.

She needs to have her thyroid tested. That may be the problem. If it's her diet and activity level, her parents need to establish healthy eating habits and get her involved in physical activiites.

130 lbs at age of 9 is a serious problem. Your friend needs to take her daughter to a doctor who specializes in obesity in children ASAP.

change her eating habits, don't have any unhealthy high calorie snacks in the house. let her eat her fill, it works i promise, after the pounds start to fall off she will become proud of herself and more concience of her appearance and will start eating less.

I think there's programs she could take her little girl to, to get her on a healthy diet. You could always call around and ask about it!
