Well, the "Armed Forces" includes all branches of the military, so I'm not sure what branch you mean. Having served in the Army, I'm somewhat partial to that branch. It really depends on what you want to get out of the military. The Army has better physical training programs, the air force has better amenities, the Air Force and Navy seem to have a more relaxed environment. It really depends on which job you choose within your branch of choice. You risk a greater chance of deployment with the Army. All have the same benefits and no matter what branch you choose, take advantage of what you're given.

Do you have a college education? Are you going enlisted or becoming an officer? Ask yourself what you want to do for the next six years, where you want to live, what skills you want to develop before you ask which branch. Remember, there is life after the military. And it can only change you for the better if you plan ahead and develop something that translates to a strong resume later on. Character is something that develops naturally. A security clearance and other attributes have to be planned for. Like many other career choices, a military career is earned at the expense of trade offs. Serious ones, in fact. Ask yourself what you are willing to give up now before you ask yourself why you did it three years later.

Good luck.

I would join the Navy, I spent 6 years in the Navy and from my friends who were in the other branches it seemed that the Navy had a quicker track for advancement. It also had many positions which had a starting paygrade higher than e-1.

Um, the Navy is part of the Armed Forces.

Check out each of the branches to determine which one is going to offer/guarantee (in writing) you the best deal for you.

Well it's your choice, but if you want my opinion I'd say neither. You should never be willing to kill or die for a country and system that cares nothing about you. That is unless you're a member of the ruling class, which I sincerly doubt you are judging that you wanna join the armed forces for the benifts.

Anyways, that's my opinion. I'm sure you don't wanna here it but I figured I'd share it anyways. :)

Marleena... There's a lot more you have to ask yourself before you dive into a commitment like this.
You can contact me if you wish with more questions... But you're right, it is a life-altering decision.
