Some questions to ask yourself:

Does he do this when you're home or only when you're gone? Whose pillow does he chew up -- yours or someone else's? How much time and attention do you give him every day? Does he have an alternate chew toy such as a Kong or Nylabone? Do you crate him when you're gone, and is the garbage still accessible?

If he only does this when you're gone, it sounds like separation anxiety. If he does it even when you're home, it might be boredom or territorial behavior. I'd suspect the latter if he's only chewing up the alpha person's belongings.

If he's bored and/or doesn't have a chew toy of his own, he needs a sturdy Kong or Nylabone to work off his stress. Chewing is a dog's version of a stress buster. And spending more "quality time" with him might help, too.

If you know he gets into garbage, the garbage ought to be put in a can that he can't open or placed somewhere that he can't reach it. And if he does a lot of these things while you're gone, he needs to be crated for his own protection. If you've never crate trained a dog, post another question, and I'd be happy to explain how to do that.

The bottom line is that you're responsible for his safety and well-being. He's not going to look at that garbage can and think, "Oh, my, I mustn't be naughty and get those yummy chicken bones." Dogs don't reason that way.

You're the only one who can keep him from getting sick or worse. Like I said, if I can be of further help, post another question or add a comment to this one.

Simple, give your dog a chew toy. A bone for instance.

Your dog needs to be in a crate when you're not home, and at night time when you're asleep if he is destructive. This will save your home and your sanity. He also may be bored, try giving him some more activity in his life.....more walks, trips to the dog park, etc. If his destructive behaviour becomes unbearable, or you think there might be something seriously wrong consult your vet.

My friends' dog used to like shoes. Same with my neighbours dog who i dog-sat. What we did was when they started to grab shoes I'd say "NO!" and replace it with something they CAN chew. I'd suggest keeping him in a room when your not around with chew toys/blankets/kennel with blanket and of course newspaper...: P Hope i was help!

Buy him a Kong and stuff it with snacks, he will learn that it is his chew toy and keep him occupied. He probably needs more exercise too. If he is bored and full of energy he will be destructive!

He is at that terrible stage. Give him things that he can chew and he will outgrow it. Or it can be he is bored and needs more time with his human.
