Mice in your house needs to be addressed by an exterminator. Two things are at issue here 1) investigate and correct how the mice are getting in the home. In many older homes this answer may never be discovered. 2) Mice have a tendency to eat the coverings on the wiring in the walls of the house. A dangerous thing. Can lead to electrical fires burning inside the walls. The exterminator can treat the house so mice will not want to return.

If the mice are infected, people who come in contact with the droppings can become infected. Did you bait the traps? I've found bacon and peanut butter to be the best baits. If the traps are dirty/used clean well with hot soapy water. Then put them in a baggy with the peanut butter pushed well into the trip mechanism, and place into the freezer for several hours. The baggy will keep the trap isolated from freezer contents and it will harden the peanut butter. Or, smush bacon into the trip mechanism and wrap sewing thread around the bacon and trip to secure the bacon from being removed too easily by the mouse. Problem is, and the rule of thumb is: if you see one mouse, there are 20 more behind walls within your house. Keep setting traps although you have caught several. Keep traps clean or mice will avoid them. Seriously consider inviting a cat friend to live with you!!!

Unless you live in the plains and desert region of the US, there is very little risk of Hantavirus. And if you've only seen 4 mouse droppings, you don't have a mouse problem.
Make sure you don't leave any open food containers in cabinets or cupboards. Seal baking goods in jars or metal canisters. Get some traps and bait them with peanut butter to eliminate your mouse if it makes you feel better.
But seriously, unless there are heaps of mouse terds in your cabinets, you don't need to worry about getting sick from a couple mice in your house.

I sympathize with your desire to have a child but this is a Bad, bad BAD idea! Legally: Not only can your friend get fired if caught, in most places this is a felony. And you are an accessory. Unless you want to have a baby in jail, forget it. Biologically: There is a reason in vitro fertilization is a low yield proposition: The conditions do not favor impregnation. That is why it usually takes a number of attempts. Let's face it - the "usual" way of fertilization usually takes a several attempts (on average). Ethically: People who donate sperm do so under very strict conditions and under the assurance that their genetic material will be used appropriately. They have a right to have that expectation fulfilled. And what would you tell your child? That they were the product of a crime? Please reconsider.

You're chance of getting Hanta virus are slim. Get rid of the mice and the droppings and to really put your mind at ease, call your local health department and ask if they know of any outbreaks recently.

Wash the floor with a bleach water solution. Make it a bit on the strong side, but not so strong you gas your self. The chlorine in the water will disinfect, and the water will keep the fecal particles from floating up into your lungs.

if mice are so dangerous then how come we can keep them as pets? I have four and I haven't caught anything so I wouldn't worry about the disease unless you consume some of their droppings which I doubt you will do. I guess you'll just have to wait for the traps to do their work but please make sure you don't step on one!

Use the bags of rat killer. The rats (or mice) will eat the stuff in the bags and then die. But when they die, it dries out the body so there is no smell.

Yes, it's worse in the western states. The Indians had a saying that if you see a mouse run across your cloths you need to burn them.
