I have a TV upstairs and downstairs. The upstairs one has two cable outlets in the wall and both were being used before I hooked up the TIVO. When I hooked it up, I removed the splitter and the cord from one of the two cable outlets. So now I'm not using a splitter and one outlet is not being used. My cable TV does not work anymore downstairs. Do I need to hook it up with the splitter again upstairs? What do I do?

It sounds like you have a nonstandard serial setup. I hate those. Reinstall the splitter, then take the wallplate off the other cable outlet upstairs and look for another splitter. If there is, remove it and instead install a barrel (threaded shaft with a female port in each side) between the incoming line and the line heading downstairs, bypassing the outlet completely.

Depending on what service you use, you might just want to call the company, because that should be a cost-free service call. Besides, if I'm right, they'll reengineer your home system to be parallel, you'll likely get better reception on every TV.

It sounds like you will need to do that.

Rule of thumb: if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Just put it back the way it way and you should be back in business.
