Thats a rather broad question, it usually doesn't matter how long the proceeding goes on as much as how many times the lawyer has to go to court, draw up this paper and that paper...but I'm going to say probably around $5,000 US dollars

very few attorneys have a fixed rate for something such as this, and I would not trust the ones that offer it.

You will pay an hourly rate for billable hours, depending on the complexity of the case this could go as high as several thousand dollars.

For some reason that I am unaware of it seems attorneys know how much you will pay and amazingly that is how much you are billed.

I'm thinking you're more likely to end up running into the 10's of thousands of dollars for a decent attorney.

Depending on their rate, they would bill for everything regarding the case. Correspondence (letters/e-mails), telephone calls, meetings. It could be set in monthly fees. Depends on the amount the lawyer charges also. You could also as the attorney for a rate.

Your friend's lawyer can tell you more in detail and I urge you to check around, depend upon the lawyers also. Some are charge arm and leg and some wants to help and charge less. I advice you to help your friend to spend more time calling and visit the law library which is in your area you may be able to get advice from Pro Bo-no lawyer for free. Try talking to legal Aid , you may be lucky if they can refer you to the less costly lawyer.Good luck.
