Why do people feel the need to pick a side in war?
- This to me is silly, since war is a pointless waste of life... people picking sides from afar are like people betting on a football game from home.. War is not a spectator sport!
*******************************************************************
I agree however war will always be one thing. the conflict of 2 or more persons on opposite sides of an issue.
people feel a need to pick sided because of how they feel about the issue..it they agree (for example) that hitler was wrong they will choose the allied forces as their champion on the issue.
if they agreed with Hitler than they would choose the Nazi army as their champions on the issue.
it gives people a sense of purpose and a feeling that something is being done about something that they care about.
*************************************************************
Why do people think that war is necessary?
- When has war been necessary? If you bring up Hitler I'll tell you that Hitler was the one that started the war (on anyone not aryan).. and starting the war was unnecessary on his part.
*************************************************************
when has war been necessary....well the American Patriots felt that it was necessary. and their victory is what makes it possible for you to even have the freedom to ask your question.
war is necessary anytime someone is trying to force other people to follow a system or belief that they do not share.
in war you will always have an agressor and a defender. if the defender is to win they usually must become the agressor.
it would be wonderful if war did not have to happen. but as humans we will always have differances of opinion and some of us will find the primative urge to fight that which we do not agree with.
thus war will always happen.
******************************************************************
Why don't people see that war has historically been caused by difference of religion or philisophical beliefs?
- C'mon folks... it's right there in front of you..
i think that people do see this. but these are not the onlyu reasons. war is caused by GREED. greed has many faces...
greed could be associated with a need to be precieved as right or correct. therefore a philosopher could start a war because he believes that pluto is a planet yet the scientific community does not.
usually thought money land or natural resources are involved....
and religion is used as a way to rally people to a specific cause.
*******************************************************************
i do disagree with war. and i think that you make some valid points. hope my answer helps you.

World War I and II, the Korean War, the Viet Nam War, Grenada, Panama, and Gulf War I were about religion or philosophical beliefs? What in the world gave you that idea?
World War I started when Germany, Austria & Hungary decided they wanted to control the world. It was about economic imperialism, not religion or philosophy. It was set off when Archduke Ferdinand was assassinated.
World War II was another situation where the Axis Powers wanted to control the world. Hitler's view was not only economic, but racial, claiming the Aryans as the superior race. Japan wanted an Empire to calltheir own, and sought after resources that Russia and the Dutch East Indies owned. They attacked Pearl Harbor to stop the U.S. from intervening in the Pacific.
The Korean War was about the Communist puppet government of North Korea wanting to take over and reunite the South into one country. It was all about power and economics, in this case, Communism.
The Viet Nam War was very similar to Korea in cause and scope. It had nothing to do with religion, and everything about power and control.
In Grenada, Castro thought he could get by with setting up a little Cuba on the island, and turn it into a puppet government.
In Panama, it was about Noriega and his corruption and drug running activities.
The first Gulf War was about sending Saddam Hussein packing from Kuwait, which he invaded and called Kuwait "his 19th province." It was about controlling the vast oil reserves.
In the 20th century, most major wars were fought because someone wanted what someone else owned. Very few were about religion, although if you want to call the struggle between Communism and Democracy a philosophical conflict, then I'll buy that, but only to a degree.

The asker said 'Why do people think that war is necessary?
- When has war been necessary? If you bring up Hitler I'll tell you that Hitler was the one that started the war (on anyone not aryan).. and starting the war was unnecessary on his part'
However, do the people opposed to Hitler's view have the moral right to defend themselves from Hitler? If they do; then do they not have to war against Hitler?
Feel free to email me if I have misunderstood your question.

You admit that you know that people will kill you for your philisophical differances, It has been proven out ever since man exsisted.
Yet for some reason you insist on believing that since its "so obvious" they will stop killing.
What the hell makes you think that since "You" brought it up the killing will stop.
This same whiney kinda speach gets made by whiney little people all over the world,at every time in space on this planet, yet thugs with guns and bombs still kill and try to conquer.
We, as Americans have saved every country on this planet at least once from thugs with guns. And each and every time there was a bunch of little ******* whining about how mean we are cause we "just dont understand" the poor little downtrodden freak with a bomb.
If i had a dime for every time i heard that line of crap,,,
I could afford that new 2007 custom built bomb shelter i was lookin at at the last peace rally.

Sometimes war is necessary as tragic as that is. If we could just send the terrorists a gift basket with some "Im sorry" greeting cards then that would be all hunky dory. Buty the reality is that we live in a fallen world, God is in control, and luckily we have a leader who listens to Him. There is nothing to worry about God is in control!

Hi ceaz
If people had not chosen sides durning WW II, you would now be speaking German or Japanese or both.
Why do people think war is necessary? Read the following. Have a good day.
Jam 4:1 From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?
Jam 4:2 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.

War is sometimes necessary. Sometimes there are things that must be stopped. Ex: genocide on Hitler's own people before he started the war.

So Hitler was the one who started the war! So what do we do? Because he statrted it we have to let him win it and have his way? If he got his way then all his people would start wars since he was a war starter It would never end.

"There is a proper place for war.
"The LORD is a man of war: the LORD is his name." Exodus 15:3"
Really? This is the same Lord prayed to by all of those Christians who love to point out that Islam is "the religion of war"? I'm gonna go look this one up. BRB.
Okay, how about that? That's what it says all right. Whew. So much for the power of citing holy scriptures out of context. Tu quoque.

I have always thought that picking sides is nonsensical as well, wars shouldn't even exist. People think it is necessary for power, everybody thinks they own this and that piece of land, and as for religious reasons, it all bears down to who is right and who is wrong in each side's opinion (as in a religious view, as in, those people are the devil, we must exterminate them). People strive for power throughout their lives, whether it be power over a donut, or power over people.
