I do see the purpose of religion as far as moral codes, hope, etc. But what I am seeing more and more now is the devisive nature of religion--and it seems to be breeding more hate, than hope. I wonder how many millions of people have died in the name of God--and is that what people really think he would want? I consider myself a spiritual person--and my belief system is more Christian than any other, but I can see truth and beauty in many religions and cultures. I think diversity is beautiful, why does it make others so angry?

I do understand that religion does create good in this world...it just scares me b/c when people feel that all/most of their actions are fulfilling God's will...it seems to give them license to do anything...up to and including murder, oppression, etc. I guess I just wish for more tolerance in this world, don't you?

Hey, Hand of Justice--it's interesting that you call me a hypocrite, as your name implies...you see yourself and your belief system as judge/jury/executioner...the irony of your comment is that it proves my point exactly! Thanks for that. ;o)

Diversity and spirituality are beautiful. Their fundamental beliefs are tolerance and acceptance and therein lies the major conflict with Christianity. I don't think Christianity will be mankinds downfall but peoples apathy to the Fundies brand of religious terrorism.

You ask how many have died because of religion.

May I flip that coin and ask how many have died at the hands of atheist

1. Pol..1-3 Million
2. Stalin 70 Million
3. Chairman Mao 200 million

Atheist really don' t have much room to go around and saying things like religion and those killed.

Atheist are the world leaders when it comes to murder and those killed. They argue that they didn't kill because of religion except for Pol...but they were in fact atheist leaders...and under theist leadership millions were murder just in the past century

Religion has aways been and will always be "way of life".

You are confusing your way of life, which can be anything from democracy to communism, with CHURCH.

The danger is when you follow a Church and think it is religion, when it is control of the minds of followers outside of what your life is really meant to be.

When the President of a country says that certain people hate "our way of life" and does not know if his "way of life" is a religion or a Church or democracy or freedom to murder innocent women and children because they are of a certain race or "way of life" then there is the danger that this president thinks he is above all Gods, and this is the way of envy and hatred and dehumnanisation of a people and this is religion of hate.

Religion-or the belief in God is the only thing that saves people.

The purpose of believing in God is not abiding by a "moral code" (for even an atheist can do that) but to love God and love your neighbor as yourself.

We have a word for people who forget the 2 greatest Commandments: HYPOCRITES.

Q: Are religions that deny Jesus is the Son of God and leading people to judgment "beautiful" ???

You are a rare soul in to days madness.
I believe their anger come s from people like me and possibly you, the ones don't conform to their way of thinking or should I say belief. This drives the self righteous crazy if they can't convert you.

Religion is often about control and group membership (tribalism). In groupls imlpy outgroups, and all that goes with it.

Until we lose the tribalist legacy (in part, in our DNA), expect more of the same even though it makes no sense in a modern world.

Well there has been religion since the beginning of time and we're still here. What is becoming the downfall of man right now is pure greed. Thinking only of oneself. I want this, this is my RIGHT, I can do whatever I want its my RIGHT.... it flows quickly in religion and outside of it.

"I wonder how many millions of people have died" Thats the mistake. Don't look at what people do. Because people could be good, people could be evil Look at what religion teaches.
