If you bought the car from an individual then they were suppose to give you the title so you could put it in your name. This is how we do it in Alabama. Some states maybe different though.

If you bought if from the dealership then you will have an application and bill of sale. If you paid for the vehicle in full then you would get the title in like 6 weeks. If your making payments then the company your making payments to will hold the title til' then.

In order for you to sale the car legally you will need the title (has to be in your name) and do up a bill of sale. Check with your state DMV and make sure all the paperwork and stuff is done correctly so no problems happen later on. Check the link below or just contact your DMV and talk to the title clerks so you don't have to make that many trips back and fourth. Hope this is helpful.

You cannot sell a car without a title because you don't own it. If you bought one, and didn't get a title at the time of sale, you have been conned. Contact the seller and demand either the title or your money back. Don't be surprised if the seller suddenly doesn't know you. You have no proof you bought it if you don't have the title.

For all you know there is a debt due on the car, or it is stolen.

You can sell it by just providing a bill of sale. However, the next owner will need your title signed over to get a title and registration in his own name. Most people will not purchase a car under these circumstances unless it is for scrap value only because they have no way of knowing whether the car has liens upon the title and can't get it registered.

You can take a refundable deposit on the car pending the conveyance of title. If you can find a sucker to do it!

You need the titile to sign off to sell it. Why are you trying to sell it if you just bought it?
