Ultimately, organized religion is only a way to come to terms with what you believe. Once you know there is a God, religion itself doesn't matter- if that makes sense. You believe what you think is true. It doesn't matter what anyone else believes. Think for yourself. My version of christianity is different than many others. There are still some basic beliefs, but beyond that, it's all up to what you believe, not what a religion believes as a whole.

Your faith should be in God not religion. Religion is the practice we choose to help us keep our faith. It is where we should get our spiritual food. And, that should include studying the Bible and using it as a guide. Just remember the golden rule is to love your neighbor as God loves you. Don't judge others, that is God's job. I believe we experience hardships so we can help someone else who is going through the same thing. We can share our hope and strength (which comes from our faith in God and our relationship with Him) with them and help them to move forward with their lives. Pray together and then go put feet on those prayers. Keep it simple and try to do the RIGHT things in your life. God gives us choices. Make good ones. Good choices lead to a peaceful existence, bad choices are just a quick fix for the present time.

The purpose of religion is to become close and to emulate God. Just as He is kind you should be kind, just as He is forgiving you should be forgiving and so on and so forth. The purpose of the Bible is that God gave us a guide book or a direction book to help us reach our destination. Think about it. Without a text people would not know how to develop a relationship with God. We wouldnt even have faith in Him. You should know that before the Bible there were no religious texts. The generations before the Bible didnt have a text and they DID NOT believe in God. They worshipped all sorts of silly things. So those are your options, your pet rock or God.

If Allah had willed, He would have made them a single nation. But He admits whoever He wills into His mercy and the wrongdoers have no protector and no helper. (42:8)
They say, 'Be Jews or Christians and you will be guided.' Say, 'Rather adopt the religion of Ibrahim, a man of natural pure belief. He was not one of the idolaters.' (2:135)
Is it other than the religion of Allah that you desire, when everything in the heavens and earth, willingly or unwillingly, submits to Him and to Him you will be returned? (3:83)
There is no compulsion where the religion is concerned. Right guidance has become clearly distinct from error. Anyone who rejects false gods and believes in Allah has grasped the Firmest Handhold, which will never give way. Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing. (2:256)
Who could have a better religion than someone who submits himself completely to Allah and is a good-doer, and follows the religion of Ibrahim, a man of pure natural belief? Allah took Ibrahim as an intimate friend. (4:125)
All the above statements are verses from the Holy Quran. Allah is the name used for reference to God. Finally just ask for the Truth and Allah will give it to you. Don't listen to me. Don't look at how people live their lives just read the book yourself and see if it's the truth or not. Visit http://www.harunyahya.com/miracles_of_the_quran_01.php and if Allah wills you will be guided to realize the Truth.
Say: 'My Lord has guided me to a straight path, a well-founded religion, the religion of Ibrahim, a man of pure natural belief. He was not one of the idolaters.' (6:161)

God wants you to have faith in him.
If you connect straight through to God on your own...... you don't need religion at all, and if you like you don't even need to go to Church, but perhaps God may want you to..... do you get my point!
Best thing is to pray often, and build a personal foundation with God, and Jesus too.
I was raised catholic, and consider myself a christian, although I go to many Churches, and don't care to much what the religion is, I go because the same God is in all his Houses-churches.
I done some praying on the issue, God finally gave me a answer, He said not to join any Church, but to go to them all, meet different people, and perspectives, that you learn more that way.

Good question. The word "religion" means "to bond". People bond to a group of people and their rules and say "looky here, we have a religion".
