I was a Christian for a while after reading the bible--it took a sorta in-your-face feminist college professor to get me to actually think about what it said about women. lol
This was only one thing that lead me to leave Christianity--prolly not the biggest thing. But it was definately a factor.

I have honestly read the bible in bits, I am yet to read it all, but have also seen this and experienced it too. My pastor came for a visit a few months ago for our premarriage classes and when I had an opinion he was not impressed. The man actually told me that me hubby should express any opinions of God in our lives. I got married at another church that has a woman as a minister there, which is my husband's religion. It was worth it even though it was a change from my strict religion before, but heck I just don't think I am nothing next to a man. I think that I should love and Honor my hubby but I am still a person with feelings, it really does make it hard. I still Honor God and love him I just don't think I should shut up and be a good little wife. That is just wrong. I think in the end God will forgive me if I am wrong anyway.

I am female and Christian. I haven't read the whole Bible, only sections and I know that some of the stuff said doesn't fit in well with today's attitudes. However I think this is the same with many religions, Islam and Jewdaism seem to have the same kind of attitudes in their Holy books. I regard myself as a Christian because I believe Jesus was the son of God and I think that many of the Biblical teachings, such as the ten commandments are still good guides today. However, I also believe, that the Bible was written in a different time, when the people had different moral views, that we cannot critisise them for, and therefore some of the concepts seem unnatural to us. To me, what makes me a Christian is not believeing every work of the bible, but believing the Jesus was the son of God.

Yes, I have read the Bible and yes, what you say is true. However, I say that the Bible was written by men. I'm sure the men put that stuff in the Bible to try to make us sub-servient to them. In any case, as a woman, I have power that men cannot hope to ever achieve. Life comes through me, me, my body. I give birth to life; that's how I bruise the head of the devil. Now tell me that I am at the bottom of the christian hierarchy!

Do you read the bible? If you did, you would know that the bible doesn't say that we should bow down and serve man. It says we should submit to our husbands, like when it comes to big decisions, they make the decisions. If a man is abusing that and saying "Oh, well it says it in the bible that I can do this, and you have to have sex with me when I want..." then I can refuse. No one said that we are below men. I read the bible. I think you're just a man looking for some control so you want to take it out on women. Grow up. Read it a little closer...

When those scriptures are taken out of context of the original language, what else is written around them, and the time that it was written, then I guess it could look like that.
Otherwise , I have no problem with my husband, who does his best to love me as Christ loves the church, being the head of this household. I have no problem submitting to his authority especially as he obeys the word in considering me in every decision that he makes, providing for all of my needs, and taking responsibility for things that are problems, physically and spiritually, in this house. That is a lot of responsibility that I am glad not to have.
There is nothing in the Word of God that says that a woman cannot have and express an opinion- there is a proper order for all things and life is usually a LOT more stress free when we operate in that order. There is nothing that says that she cannot gain knowledge , wisdom and understanding and that she cannot be used for great things.
I suggest you read the Bible, in its entirety and proper context and if you want to share any scriptures with me that you are worried about causing me oppression, I will be morethan happy to help you understand them a little better.
I know that my God has made me in His image and He has called what He has made good. I know that I am precious to him, far above rubies and that he desires His attributes of grace and mercy, patience and gentleness to shine through me. I have no problem with that!

You should also read how many women were advancing the gospel and aiding the disciples and Paul in those days. It is very clear that there is not a hierarchy within Christianity between men and women. We are equal. We are not slaves to men. Read about Ruth, Esther, Hannah, Elizabeth, the sisters Martha and Mary. In Romans 16 Paul thanks and sends greetings to Phoebe, Priscilla, Tryphena and Tryphosa, Persis, Rufus' mother, and Nereus' sister all of whom were women who helped Paul in his ministry. Also there are 5 women mentioned in the geneology of Jesus in Matthew. Normally geneologies follow the male line so these women were significant. So you should read about Tamar, Rahab, Ruth (mentioned earlier), Uriah's wife Bathsheba, and Mary who found favor with the Lord.
Proerbs 18:22 He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the LORD.
Proverbs 31:10 A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies.
1Corinthians 7:4 The wife's body does not belong to her alone but also to her husband. In the same way, the husband's body does not belong to him alone but also to his wife.
Galatians 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
Ephesians 5:21 Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
Ephesians 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her
Colossians 3:19 Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them.

Yes, I am very aware of what certain books say about women in the Bible, but I just look at it as something that was part of that culture. Times have changed. I am the opposite of that kind of women.

Read and understand we are not slaves we are not property. We have the right to be respected as eph.5:25 and 28 straits.
So get off your own self-centeredness and respect us as you would the lord god. if you don’t respect him at all then you have no right to say that about women or have a right to quote from the words of the lord.(although you like others just paraphrase.)
Eph 5:22 Wives, be in subjection unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. (This doesn't mean slave. just means let the man do what a man is suppose to do such as job, yard work, hard labor work)
Eph 5:23 For the husband is the head of the wife, and Christ also is the head of the church, being himself the saviour of the body. (He must follow the law of the church disrespecting the wife is not following the law)
Eph 5:24 But as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives also be to their husbands in everything. (we have to act proper, which means not flirting with other men. cleaning the house, taking care of the kids. basically to do our wifely duties which doesn't mean be a sex slave either)
Eph 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself up for it; (you have to respect the wife as you would the lord. if you don’t respect your wife you are not respecting the lord)
Eph 5:26 that he might sanctify it, having cleansed it by the washing of water with the word,( you must teach the lords word)
Eph 5:27 that he might present the church to himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.(show they are living right in the eyes of god)
Eph 5:28 Even so ought husbands also to love their own wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his own wife loveth himself: (if you mistreat your wife you are doing the same unto yourself and show that you don’t love yourself)
Eph 5:29 for no man ever hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as Christ also the church; (explains itself take it wrong such as you use this one and only to say you are better than your wife. you will not be right in the eyes of god....
So if you want to attack women and use the bible to do it. Then you too must follow the rules of the bible. This is what my own husband taught me.
Only control I have in my home is making sure things get done when they need to get done, because his mind gets focused on something. he forgets his own time he set for himself. He leads this house. He helps with the raising of our children. He is living right in the scripture I have shown. You have to answer to god especially if you want to use the words in the bible as a way to control your wife. You can’t pick and choose what to follow. You must follow all. If your not married you don’t have no right to tell us what to do period. How the woman lives outside their fathers home, her father has to answer to god for, if they are still at home. A man must respect the rules of the father’s home. Until a woman is married she answers to god and her own father. Marriage isn’t the same as being a daughter.

Yes I actually read the Bible. It keeps my brain clean:)
I dont share your perspective on women according to the Bible.
I have never read it that way. Email me if you have any questions. I have to go real quick and serve my husband his dinner and give him a back rub and make myself available to him.
