Well, if he is gambling and drinking when not at work. He probably doesn't think much about sex. At the young of 31 guys should be trying to get it all the time. atleast 3 times a week. You need to talk to him about this. Don't come in ready to swing fists, lol. Tell him you need to talk about something that is really bothering. If you don't feel that just talking to him alone will help, maybe seek some counseling. Many couples have had to do counseling. So don't think it means either of you have failed at something. It's just nice to a mediator there or a third party. Plus, if he is drinking and gambling that there is enough to destroy an marriage. I say you need to do something about this pronto. Good Luck

healthier? i don't think so , making love to yourself wont' really satisfy you that much.
Safer? it is . but you can be safe by protecting yourself.
You have to know what you like and you'll need guys for that. I 'd definitely get out there and meet people than staying home and masturbating. How will you know if that person is the one for you if you haven't tried it with different guys. You need experience.

Are you serious? If you really need sexual satisfaction, then, yes, masterbation would be healthier than having sex with strangers. Atleast you know who you are sleeping with!

Masterbation is healthy period. Even if your in a loving/sexual relationship you can still do it.
Definatly a lot safer, zero chance of getting an STD/hurting anyones feelings.
AAAAAAnd it makes the real thing that much more enjoyable.
