The Catholic Church does not use Holy Scripture as the only basis of doctrine. It could not. The early Catholic church existed before and during the time that the New Testament was written (by Catholics).
There were hundreds of Christian writings during the first and second centuries. Which New Testament writings would become official was not fully decided until about 400 AD.
Catholics believe that the Holy Spirit was guiding the early church (and is guiding the church today) to make the correct choices about things like:
- The Holy Trinity (which is also only hinted at in the Bible)
- Going to church on Sunday instead of Saturday (which is actually directly against one of the Ten Commandments)
- The Communion of Saints
- Which writings include in the New Testament?
Things that are even more modern like
- Slavery is bad. Slavery is never declared evil in the Bible. This is one of the justifications for slavery in the Confederate States.
- Democracy is good. The Bible states that either God should be the leader of the nation like Israel before the kings or kings should be the leader, "Give to Caesar that which is Caesar's." This was talked about a lot during the American Revolution.
This second source of doctrine is called Holy Tradition.
With love in Christ.

I'm so sorry for your twisted conception of things. If you claim to be a former Catholic and you feel this way, it is obvious you never learned what your faith was or taught.
I have studied intensely for going on four years. I have attended RCIA. I hold a M.Th. and have written 2 books on last days theology from the Catholic perspective. I have read the CCC, the Vatican Documents...pretty much you name it.
I have read the Holy Christian Bible in about every available interpretation... Catholic and Protestant. In the beginning, not being a "cradle Catholic" I approached all of this very open minded. The Catholic Church operates directly from scripture. And it is the only Church I have attended where the service, Mass, is a true worship service and God's presence is real.
May God Bless and help your poor soul.

Do you view someone like Mother Teresa "bloodthirsty" (according to your site) and bent out of shape? She's one of the best people that ever lived, and I don't think you would have wanted to change any part of her.
Also, keep in mind when someone is attacking the Catholic church saying they killed millions of people in Crusades, that was HUNDREDS of years ago. Yes those were HORRIBLE people, but they are not the same ones that exist today.
If you really cared you would know that posting stuff like this would just hurt us Catholics and insult. Not because we're "bent out of shape" but because people that post pages like this are very ignorant and do not take the time to try and understand beliefs that differ than thier own. God Bless You and I hope you can learn to respect your brothers and sisters, no matter what religion or belief or nonbelief they have.

wish you had set the site as a separate window - would have been much easier. here's a few....
Do this in Remembrance of Me -- Eucharist - the Todah celebration that Christ offered on that fate filled Thursday was gift of Thanksgiving.
praying to idols - get over it - we don't and it you were taught to - i'm sorry you were in a poorly overseen church. i have pictures in my home - they remind me of people i love - i don't worship them either. most are of Christ, Mary or the saints. Even Pal spoke of "the perfecting of the saints for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ." i like to be reminded of those saints and how their struggles were much more than anything i could ever be feeling or dealt at the time.
calling priests father, popes nuns, etc -- while you pointed out one passage - where are the others telling us about the others that pointed out the hierarchy of teaching - call him teacher, father, etc? in 1 Timothy they even talk about bishops & decons. there there's 1 Timothy 5:1 rebuke not an elder but intreat him as a father....
you may want to delve more in to the original text of the bible - the word translated today to mean brothers & sisters was actually the word - cousins.
Remember logic class and the if then theories -
Mary gave birth to Jesus
Jesus is God
Therefore Mary gave birth to God.
you see there is the Trinity - God the Father - Almighty God, the one to whom Christ Himself prayerd and called out upon his hour of death. There is God the Son - the living God made Flesh. Then there is God the Spirit - this is the Spirit that God sent down upon His Son and His people throughout the Bible - sometimes in flame or a dove....
saved in part by good works.... you have that a little wrong. unfortunately, the good works come after you are saved. Just as "Faith without works is dead, so works without faith are also dead". when you are saved and have accepted Christ and His way is the way you want to live - yes you try in all manners to live as He showed and taught - to do good to others, to be charitable and (the most famous) to Do unto others and you would have them do unto you. if those are the "works" you speak of - then so be it - for all though the bible we're reminded we are to be charitable. also in John 3:21 but he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God. Christ had been talking previously about people doing evil deeds.
odd how often times people overlook the fact we are to speak no mallice or foolish words but rather as stated in
2 Timothy2:16 shun profane & vain babblings; for they will increase unto more ungodlinesss.
(Roxton - just saw your post - God Bless you!!!!!)

because you are attacking their religious beliefs.
it would be the same as me , a Pagan Priest showing you all of the problems with the Christian religion as a whole and telling you that your religion was false. and then trying to get you to join my Grove....
you would see it as offensive and as an attack and you would go into defense mode to protect your beliefs. just because you were swayes form your chosen religion by a website or the rambelings of some preacher or another does not mean that everyone is ready to convert. many people LOVE their religions and their customs and traditions. when you attack something that people love you should expect resistence and a negative reaction.

a guy in the bible roasted his daughter alive becuase he promised God he would sacrifice the first thing he saw when he came home.
2 daughters in the bible had sex with their father they had made drunk for that perpose so that they could have kids.
now does this mean u should have sex with ur father and its ok to roast ur daughters alive if u promised it to God? no, big fat NO. the bible needs to b interpertated by an educated man of God. the fact that Jesus had disiples to teach and explan His word, and made peter the first pope, shows us we r not meant to read the bible and draw our own conclusions alone.

Another nut who thinks she has exclusive dominion over "the truth." You really ought to pray that you someday learn how to write the English language. This question is nearly unintelligible.
Why don't people like you just let people believe what they want to believe without engaging in your petty, poorly stated attacks?

Amen Sister! You dont need a priest to forgive you, Jesus does that. Mary isnt God (the way they worship her), Pergatory doesnt exist. You're Heaven bound as soon as you accept Jesus as your savior. And on and on and on.....

Have you read the Catechism of the Catholic Church? Have you researched why they do what they do? If so, where do you find fault?
