A while back some pepole sent a bill to the local goverment of Nevada, to make spanish mandatory to be taght in school. Fifty years ago it was considered very rude to speak a forien language in a public place, in alot of places in the world it still is. Am I missing somethig here? My great grand parents imagrated here also. But they did not act so disrespectful. I have always thoought one language is better. Making it easier for us a ll to comunicate......?

I could AGREE more with you on this one! It is one of my biggest pet peeves! I work in a public library so I know there are a million resources to teach anyone how to speak English, and write English. There are also a ton of tutors who are willing to help people learn the language spoken here. Do you think if we were to move to their country they would be so tolerant!
I commend those who make a effort to learn the language here, but like I said get annoyed with those who do not! You don't know how many times a day I hear "you speak a spanish/"

I think you should change that question to say "why do SOME mexican immigrants not want to speak English".anyways i think it has to do with the fact that many don't have the time nor the reasources to learn it.And also because everything is in Spanish so they figure why learn it if they aren't forced to.So instead of blaming the Mexican and other latino immigrants why not blame the businesses that cater to them?If businesses didn't put their "se habla espanol" signs then many would be forced to learn the language. But no because regardless of what language they speak their MONEY speaks louder. If a business ran on just an "english only" policy it would be labeled as being racist but most importantly they would loose a lot of hispanic business, which is worse in their eyes.So once again don't blame the people blame the businesses.

The Mexicans u speak of don't want to put themselves through what it takes to learn English. The really don't want to be Americans. They want to be Mexicans in America. This gives them strength against Americans. Unity. They are united against Americans. They have remained quit until they have enough power in numbers to overwhelm Americans and our government.

A country is defined by it's border's and it's language and it's people. Everyone must be on the same page.

We are on the verge of a Revolutionary WAR in America if corporations continue to try and divide Americans and support the Mexican invasion.

Google, "Mass Immigration Madness", to get a better understanding of what we are up against.

Because our government makes it easy for them to not learn English. My grandfather came from Germany when he was 7 and would not teach his children German. He always told them they were Americans, they would speak English. I think if you want to live here, you should speak English. What you speak in your own home is your business, but in public speak English. As for making Spanish mandatory in schools, that's utter BS.

My great-grandparents didn't also. Its because mostly the mexicans I know are lazy and we cater to them. I walked into wal-mart and was physically sick because I had to listen to commercials in Spanish and then in English. If you come to America learn to speak English, its what we speak. Speak whatever language you want in your household but out in public I don't want to have to have a translator right beside me to understand what I said. If I went to Russia, China, Germany, or Sweden I would be expected to learn their language so they wouldn't have to translate everything so in all truth and actuality it is the Americans fault on this one for catering to the mexicans but its also the mexicans fault on this for being lazy and not taking on the responsibility of coming to this country illegally in the first place.

We make it too easy. I work for a major store chain and the commercials and ads ( in the store ) are in spanish. what the hell? it pisses me off because i live in a rural area. If someone asks me a questions in spanish, i will not answer them. it happens alot when i am in urban areas.

OMG! People ...again.. immigrants aren't only MEXICAN.. when you going to get that through your thick heads!? DAMN!

It's not that immigrants don't want to learn English. It's that it is hard to do so, and also they work so much that they don't have the time.

** I know a lot of immigrants, from everywhere, that have been here for years and still don't know English that well... but at least they can understand things!**

Because America don't have an official language and its a free country so if you don't like it get out. they don't need to learn it not because they don't want to do it but because they live in communities where they are almost majority so they don't need to do it. besides its necessary that they receive education in Spanish in order they learn and advance in the society.
