Unfortunately, I knew somebody who had a small dog who was impregnated by a larger dog. It became evident that there was no way for the dog to give birth, but they didn't have money for surgery and had to be put to sleep.
You need to take your dog to the vet for assessment. It's possible that she could bring a single big puppy to term (which I've heard of), that the pup or puppies can take more after the mother, and/or that she could also be pregnant by more than your neighbor's dog. Most people don't realize that because of a female's heat cycle and release of multiple eggs that they can become pregnant by multiple dogs. One of my dogs was from such a litter and it was fairly hysterical to see such a radical mix of pups. Two were purebred from a legitimate breeding, four others were definitely derived from at least two different other fathers that somehow got to her. Two of them looked like bear cubs, while on of the other's was clearly sired by a Doberman.
So, even if your neighbor's dog had a go at her, he could possibly have not impregnated her and/or there are additional pups from a smaller breed that could be saved. In the world of disparate canine breeding sizes, 35lbs. is far from the worst case I've heard of. In any case, your doctor can give your dog an abortion.
If he does so, I'd have your dog spayed while she's in there. There are enough unwanted puppies out there, and if you were a legitimate breeder of Shih Tzus, you never would have allowed this to happen. If you obtained your Shih Tzu from a legitimate breeder, it likely is only a pet quality, again because otherwise you'd have seen to it that this situation not occured. Check your contract and I'm sure you'll find a clause in there about requiring to have your dog spayed. If your breeder discovers you didn't honor your contract, she could regain custody of the dog.
And if you don't have a breeder, you most definitely should not be breeding the dog under any circumstance. Every breed has inherent health problems due to keeping the line pure by inbreeding. Only show quality dogs who have been cleared of any potential health problems should be bred.
I hope that your county and/or state does what more and more are doing; namely charging you approxiamately 10x the license price annually for un-neutered pets. There are far too many unwanted animals out there without adding to it.
BTW, your neighbor's dog is either still a puppy, unhealthy, or not pure-bred if it only weighs 45lbs. If somebody witnesses a mounting behavior, it doesn't necessarily mean that the Lab impregnated your dog. He could be too young to do so, and what might have been seen is normal play or 'I'm the alpha dog here.'
Your neighbors may or may not be liable for helping pay the vet costs for your dog, depending on the circumstances at the time of the potential (since you say 'think' rather than knowing for a fact) impregnation. If your dog was roaming free, not a chance, though you could go after your neighbor if the Lab was also roaming free. Prepare for both of you to get hit with a criminal fee if your state forbids dogs free-roaming. If your dog got into his yard, they shouldn't be liable. Even if their dog got into your yard they will not be as liable as it is your responsibility to see that your female be unaccessable when in heat.
Mild amusement. When I previewed this post, I noted that the Q&A program automatically blanked out my very legitimate use of a five-letter-word beginning with 'b' and ending with 'itch'.

First you should see a vet. but many a great dane laid down and got mounted by something a lot smaller.
The vet will probably tell you that depending on the size of the heads. for shi tzu's heads are flat and wide. add to the size of a lab . she will most likely need a csarian and a close watch from the vet ,on how many puppies. my Shi tzu had 13 . pure bread.all natual. good luck.

You should take her to the vet and ask the dr about possible C-Sections for your dog. It may be difficult for her to have such a large breed's puppies due to her smale size. If a vet is too expensive or you can't make an face-to-face visit, then just give them a call. Call your local vet or the local animal hospital center. They should offer you some free advice.

Absolutely not! Seriously, take your dog to the vet ASAP and get an ultrasound, if your dog get impregnated by a large dog it could kill her. Take her before she gets too far along, the vet will most likely have to abort the puppies but if you love your dog it will be well worth it, if you don't take care of it and she is knocked up the lab you will lose you dog AND the puppies. Best of luck!

Call the vet your dog may need to be spayed in order to fix the problem or have the pups by c-section. A pretty expensive way to have mixed breed puppys.

I was told by a vet that the puppies usually adjust to the size of the mother. But to be sure please ask your own vet. You don't want anything to happen to your dog. I hope you will have your dog neutered so there will be no more puppies. Thousands of dogs are put to sleep every year because there are not enough homes for them.

I'd take her to a vet. She might very likly have to abort the puppies as they will big to big for her to carry and could kill her. Take her to the vet ASAP and talk with him. You may want to get her fixed, or keep her penned up so this can't happen again. If you want to breed her try keeping her inside while in heat. good luck!

I would immediately go to your vet and get your shih tzu spayed... you obviously are not responsible enough to keep your dog away from other intact males.
