I canceled a certain credit card in July. I was only paying for a legal service and was not using the credit card. I canceled the legal service and the credit card last month.
Today I got a bill for the legal service and an extra twenty dollars. I called them up and they said, even though I canceled the card they are still going to charge me ten dollars a month, and I cannot use the card. Will someone please help me. I want to get rid of this card. Are they allowed to do that.

I shouldn't think they can do that but I'd check my agreement.

Normally you can cancel the legal services on a month by month base. They just probably try to tell you that you have canceled that card but you have not canceled the service. Both are separate items.

So - make sure you cancel that service too. You can call them again and tell "I cancel the legal service" and get a confirmation. And send certified mail with receipt if necessary.

If they don't accept the cancellation ask them to show you the paperwork where it says you can not cancel.

Document everything (in case this turns into a law suit).

Read your agreement. In the end user portion or termination portion (whatever they call it)
It may state that they reserve the right to charge you a $10 a month service fee on any unpaid balances.
If I were you I would find a 0% card and transfer the remaining balance (make sure it is 0% on transfers as well, now!) and try to pay it off in the allotted time.
you can message me if you need clarification

It sounds a little shaky, I would venture if you rendered the card no good for payment, by cancellation, another issue would surface between you and the legal services contractor, and then how would he collect ? It would certainly be more difficult.

They can't do that, assuming that you paid off the card and cancelled any recurring billings. Contact your state banking regulator's office if they persist.
