I have seen xtians spouting things not in the bible, but claiming it to be scripture. I have seen purported atheists spewing false scientific facts. I have seen many here state that Pagans and Wiccans in particular worship the devil when it is not so. I have read question after question that uses religion to be racist. Many individuals are completely ignorant of the fact that our nation was NOT founded upon xtianity. Clueless as to the fact that there are literally thousands of religions in the world. There are even more interpretations of those religions. There are many, many "holy" texts other than the bible and the quaran. Racism, bigotry and assumption runs rampant here. Fear of difference is out of control. Hatred leads the way. Laziness of the mind seems to be the norm.
Why do ppl not educate themselves before coming here and spreading falsehoods and poison to an already fractured society?

If you read my profile you will see that I'm agnostic. I proudly claim that I don't know. I also call it like I see it and I'm tired of the ranting and raving of mean-spirited ppl who haven't taken the time to educate themselves about anything outside of their little snowglobe view of the world. I will not sugar coat it either. I'm asking ppl to be more than they are. So why would some of you be offended and ask me to be less than I am?

People would be much more tolerant if they took the time to listen to others instead of trying to convince them they are right and convert them to their beliefs. Instead of listening they belittle people of other belief systems. Instead of admitting they don't have all the answers they call names. Since religion is based on belief and there is no proof, I see nothing wrong with saying I don't have all the answers to why I believe the way I do or about how life came to be, instead they get defensive and start to call others names. I have more respect for someone who says that is a great question and I don't have all the answers then someone who insults the person asking the question to cover for the fact that they don't know.

People are told that people believe everything they're told so they themselves say it to see how many will believe them. I hate to see people say false things about what the Bible says and what Christianity teaches, yet people do it all the time and then have a bunch of people agree. Someone said earlier tonight that Christians consider snakes to be evil... a couple dozen nonbelievers agreed with them... well... Christians DONT consider snakes to be evil so why did they think it was true? Because people only believe what they want to believe and most dont care to be corrected.

You raise some good questions. I hope that people who read Yahoo! answers always take what they read with a grain of salt, since very few people who attempt to answer questions are experts.
I think one of the strengths of Yahoo! answers is that it gives you a feel for popular opinion and popular thinking on different issues, especially in R&S. While many of the answers may not be well informed, they are probably good reflections of what average people believe.
The site really ends up being a repository of popular belief and contemporary folk wisdom.

I believe it is like this, Journey.
(notice i said believe instead of know)
people are not looking for alternative explanations of the truth,
they are looking for something that fits their prejudice.
when all those that disagree with them are driven away, ridiculed, harassed, and otherwise gone well, that only leaves someone like themselves... ...then they have found what they are looking for..
While, if you are seeking truth, there will be lots of untruth around it. some of it may get believed for a while, until it can't stand the scrutiny of investigation or otherwise being exposed. therefor lies will be driven away...
kinda similar to the above don't ya think?

Er, do you think maybe you could have made your point in a more productive, polite way? I mean, I agree with most of what you've written, and I'm still giving you a thumbs down.
Care to try this again?

I don't see anything wrong with researching what you claim--and even playing the devil's advocate--before posting about it. I try to be as versed as I can about everything I do talk about. I also don't but in when I'm ignorant of the subject.

You are right about how they are uneducated and therefore spread hatred and misunderstanding.
But I do not agree with paganism and wiccan not being a worship of the devil.
This is where we differ because you are obviously educated but I wonder how much you have experienced beyond your education. (No offense)
Spiritual warfair is real and it resides on our earth. And you have either experienced the bad parading around as the gentile or you have not.
And you obviously have not.
With that being said, I applaud you in your opinion and your eloquent and indifferent wording of it.

Interacting with people of different faiths and opinions is part of that education. Many people have never had an in-depth discussion with someone of a different faith. But you're right; people should try harder to explain their feelings and give justification for their beliefs if they're going to expect others to be persuaded.

Well done, I think you've figured out a way to paint a target on your back in one go. I approve and have noticed the same, but hadn't figured out a way to put it myself. more power to you.
