There are many variations to brushing with a toothbrush and toothpaste. There are plants that can be used and substances such as salt are great for dental hygiene.

In the olden days they used porcupine spikes to brush their teeth, It doesn't have to be expensive and if they didn't brush their teeth they could end up in a lot of pain and they certainly would not be able to afford dentists.

Its bad enough coping with poverty without inflamed gums too

I have been living in poverty for many years. The last thing on my mind is brushing my teeth. When they fall out, the government will give me a set of dentures.

Why would anyone assume just because someone lives in poverty they don't care about their personal hygiene? I work with alot of people who live below the poverty line, and they brush their teeth. They're not stupid, just poor. They take baths, too, or showers-are you shocked yet?

Many people in Egypt do not own a toothbrush, so do not clean their teeth. some have a piece of wood, sold in the pharmacy, looks like a stick and you chew the end to make the fibres splay out and they use that but not with paste.. I have one of those that I carry with me, useful if you are out all day and need to freshen the teeth after a meal but don't want to carry brush and paste about with you. Where i live we do not have drinking water from the tap, we have to buy bottled water to cook with and drink. The tap water can't even be used in cooking. the city I lived in before we were able to drink the water, although advised holiday tourists not to do so.

Yes, with twigs or something that has a remarkable similarity to floss. That is, if they even have teeth to speak of. But, in saying that, you must realize that even those who DON'T live in poverty don't brush their teeth. So theres really no point in asking this question lol ;)

If you dont brush your teeth, they rot, and in the UK there are no free dentists any more, in spite of the fact that the government still charges tax to pay for free dental care, which no longer exists. Why; do you get off on toothache???

There are all kinds of plants and such that can clean teeth. And if we're talking about Americans, you can get toothpaste and a pack of toothbrushes at the dollar store.

Live in poverty don't make you a "dirty" person.
Do you brush your teeth?
