what can you tell me about gimpshop?

I liked it better than gimp cuz it had a more familiar interface ... but it's still worth it to purchase Corel Paintshop Pro X (I actually prefer v8) or Adobe Photoshop Elements4, both of which have free trials, and both of which can be purchased for under $100 US. It's worth it if you can manage it. You can purchase older versions cheaper on ebay.

It's just GIMP, the open source photo editor. BUT the user interface has been modified to look and work more like Photoshop. Trust me, it ISN'T photoshop, not even close. It's only 8 bit for one thing, and it still does a lot of stuff in a whacky way. Only now it isn't as whacky as it used to be.

To the good, it IS free. but in my opinion, you get what you pay for in this case.
